An unexpectedly fantastic day yesterday with .I exchanged a bunch of my old books and got some second hand books instead.

Being one of the first ten customers to buy a book, i got a free painting session !

I painted a tree with its heart in the soil with its roots - symbolising how important the soil is to the health of a tree and our wellbeing.

What a fantastic way to keep books in circulation!

What's it got to do with being green you might ask?

Well, entertainment today is all about checking our social media, watching Tv, netflix, playing on the PlayStation. All of this is detrimental to our visual health and doesnt always activate our mind - i dare say is a lazy man or woman's sure shot of feeling 'fast paced'. Not to mention all that energy/fossil fuel we burn while we are at it.

This hobby of weaving with macrame is surely slow but definitely very engaging for the mind and body. I just coudnt wait to get up today and finish this piece today. Thoroughly enjoyed the intense creative journey! Plus, its made from cotton ropes and no need any electricity.

Chugging along on the 'viewed as per popular belief' on the slow lane makes us pause, think and ofcourse consume less.

Here is something i am doing for the first time. Burning some organic hardy waste that cannot be composted to produce ash. Just like how we have a campfire.

Ash from any dry organic waste like scrap wood, dried coconuts is an excellent fertiliser + disinfectant for my garden that's increasingly having a pesky beetle eating the young leaves. But if you don't have a garden, wood ash is an excellent dishwash powder, yes it really removes the grease.

Its been a very long time since i shared my journey. Everyday is a challenge to educate my family and friends, to practice living a pragmatic and nature friendly life. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, to show them how easy and rewarding it is!

Dishwash liquid recipe 1 :

List of ingredients required-

1.Soap nuts – 16 nos

2.Lemons – 5 nos

3.Rocksalt – 1/4th cup

4.Vinegar – ½ cup ( can replace with clear bioenzyme if you have or make or buy)

Steps:

1.Soak soap nuts in one cup of water overnight

2.Chop five lemons into quarters and remove the seeds.

3.Pressure cook the soaked soapnuts and the cut lemons for four whistles or open cook for 20 minutes till lemons and soapnuts become soft.

4.Cool this boiled stuff and remove the seeds of the soap nuts.

5.Blend the soap nuts and the lemons in the grinder first with little water and then once again blend it with more water till soft .

6.Then strain the mixture with steel sieve .

7.Pour this mixture into a vessel and mix 1 1/2 cup of water.

8.Add 1/4 cup rocksalt and half cup white vinegar and cook till it comes to boil and then simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.

9.Store in a glass container once it cools.

This recipe worked very well for oily, greasy, normal, dusty, all types of vessels and the lemon gave the utensils a nice bright shine!

This liquid can be stored outside for about a month.

How much do we hate to be stuck driving behind a garbage truck!

It struck me as i drove of how ugly its contents looked, nothing like its new and shiny self before being bought from supermarkets.

From a treasure to trash, how easily it has moved. From beautiful to ugly. From fresh smelling to stinky.

Often the time taken for that change in state is less than a minute. Imagine buying a chocolate and giving it to your child in the supermarket. The wrapper comes off in seconds and is discarded by the child. Or a bottle of water on a hot day like today. That plastic bottle is discarded within minutes of being bought, having emptied that bottle.

And the mountain of trash and hence ugly grows.

Now imagine how much beauty and cleanliness can be brought into the world if.. only if.....we could all be conscious consumers....

I am a proud eco warrier today!

I tried out five recipes of natural cleansers - Two types of dishwash liquids, shampoo, bath powder and tooth powder, spent 2 hours in the kitchen!!!

The best part, all theingrediants were bought package free from the spice souq.

The satisfaction, love and happiness is priceless. My dopamines have been released and nobody can understand except you all!

Buying in bulk and in my own container has such a no brainer now, i scurry about everyday doing the same chores all of us do to live but every decision i take i think about the packaging of the item.

Easy peezyyyyy to go about doing my zerowaste shopping!

At it for the last 3 years, no more petrified, no more tense. The process is as easy as it looks and everyone behind the counters accept this normal shopping behaviour.

The best part is when i check out. The lady at the counter just scans my long bill with the stickers , beep beep beep beep and its all done in a jiffy and having already packed my stuff into bags i scurry off to my car.

Keeping veggies and fruits in the cotton bags inside my fridge keeps them fresh and they breathe through it, unlike a plastic bags that is comparable to a suffocating neck hold.
