6 months on from construction/planting.

My clients wanted to create a space that was not only in keeping with their classic Queenslander home, but also one that allowed them to grow herbs and vegetables, a space that could involve their grandchildren and teach them the benefits of growing their own food. The garden features mostly native plants, complemented with exotics, with the intent of attracting birdlife and bees. Check out the before photo at the end.

Progress shots - 8 months after planting

Brief: To create a space inspired by my clients recent trip to central Australia, emulating the colours and curves found within the rock formations and landscape. We've used a combination of natives and exotics, creating an Australian Mediterranean styled garden. The original pool shell and one frangipani tree was kept.

12 months after planting, I love coming back to see the progression of plantings. The pachypodium and aloes in this garden will be amazing features over the years.

Hiding the view without hiding the view. Behind these pots is an unsightly roof, but who would know? Pots are a great way to enhance a space, especially along this narrow pool edge.

I used Yucca Rigida and under planted with Senecio chalk sticks. A year on and these plants are looking great.

The thing I love most about my job is watching the gardens I designed, evolve. One of my clients sent me this photo on New Year’s Eve whilst she was sitting in her courtyard, enjoying the space. For me, that’s what it’s all about. I hope everyone has enjoyed this festive season and I look forward to sharing many more moments with you all in 2022.

Aloes are one of my favorite plants. Their shear beauty in winter lights up any space. Even when they’re not flowering their architecture composition adds beautiful form to any garden……and they’re so bloody hardy. This aloe is called Outback Orange and is produced by .

Small courtyard renovation- what a transformation. The plant palette features an interesting combination of textures, foliage and contrast, which over time will soften the hardscaping. Will be interesting to watch this garden evolve over the next 12 months.

Part of the brief when designing this garden was to incorporate an existing spa. My client wanted an open structure built around the spa that housed it. The spa was repositioned, enabling them to take in the magnificent views of the mountains whilst relaxing in the spa.
