Follow for exclusive content, new releases, and kittens. Because True Luxury Is Made by Hand ๐Ÿ’œ Hi, I'm Meg. Iโ€™ve worked for as long as I can remember. As a teenager, I held multiple jobs while still at school. Even then, I was drawn to design. In high school, I began designing and constructing gowns, and at sixteen, one of my pieces was worn on a catwalk by a professional model. That early experie

nce of seeing something I had imagined come to life on a body, under lights, never left me. A few years later, I stepped into journalism, working as a reporter and desktop publisher for a major newspaper. From there, I moved into the printing industry, eventually becoming a pre-press manager of a printing studio. I worked across graphic design roles in and around Canberra, learning production, precision, layout, typography, and the discipline of getting details right. Those years taught me how to think structurally and creatively at the same time. Life shifted when I moved from Canberra to the Snowy Mountains. It was there that I met my husband, George. Within five years, we welcomed five sons into our family. Those years were full, loud, and beautiful. While raising our boys, I began studying interior design from home and developed a deep love of photography. Photography became another creative language for me. I photograph live music and performers, animals, macro details like insects and texture, and astrophotography. I am drawn to light in all its forms, from stage lighting to distant stars. As a family, we filled our weekends with tennis, martial arts, and skiing in the mountains. At the end of 2022, we moved our family to Brisbane. I continued my interior design studies, and in August 2024, I founded MeganGaea. MeganGaea brings together everything I have done and loved: fashion, design, colour, photography, structure, storytelling, and craftsmanship. It is not a sudden idea or a trend-driven venture. It is the natural evolution of decades of creative work, practical experience, and persistence. Today, I design and handcraft each piece myself. My background in print and design means I understand construction and precision. My background in fashion and interiors shapes how I use texture and colour. My background in photography influences how I see light and form. And my life as a mother of five keeps me grounded in what real, everyday function looks like. MeganGaea is built slowly, intentionally, and personally. It carries my history, my skills, and my standards. And it continues to grow. Meg ๐ŸŒธ

I want to make better content for you... but I need your help.

(((Firstly, I apologise for using the Followers and Top Fans actions here. I know how frustrating it can be getting tagged in things all day, but this one is really important))).

Facebook has recently changed the way creators are rewarded, with longer watch times now playing a much bigger role.

Facebook needs my reels to be at least 30 seconds long and to have "qualifying views". A qualified view means you've watched for at least 15 seconds. The longer you watch, the more they pay me. That is why people put notes on their reels: "wait until the end". I don't want to do stuff like that; I genuinely want you to enjoy what you're watching.

So, rather than guessing what you'd enjoy, I thought I'd ask. If you could choose, what would you like to see more of from me?

The MeganGaea Community

I've been thinking lately about the wonderful communities that exist around creativity.

๐Ÿค Quilters.
๐Ÿค Crochet-ers. ๐Ÿง
๐Ÿค Collectors.
๐Ÿค People passionate about slow fashion.
๐Ÿค Book lovers.
๐Ÿค Gardeners.
๐Ÿค Artists.
๐Ÿค Sewists.
๐Ÿค Designers.

And I realised...

I don't think I fit neatly into just one of those groups. I simply love beautiful things. Beautiful fabrics. Beautiful craftsmanship. Beautiful books. Beautiful design. Beautiful materials. Beautiful ideas.

I'm endlessly curious about how things are made and why good design makes us feel something.

Maybe that's what MeganGaea is really about. I don't really think my space is necessarily just a sewing community. I want my space to be:

Why I Love Robert Kaufman Fabrics โค๏ธ

I have made it no secret that I am a huge fan of Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

Yes, there are plenty of beautiful fabrics in the world, but every now and then you come across a collection that makes you stop in your tracks.

๐ŸŒˆ The colours
๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ The artwork
๐Ÿซฐ๐Ÿป The quality
๐Ÿซฐ๐Ÿป The feel
๐Ÿชก The way they sew

Robert Kaufman fabrics have a beautiful weight and weave that make them a joy to work with, but it's the artwork that keeps drawing me back. Every collection feels thoughtfully designed, almost like a piece of art before it's even been sewn.

As someone who loves creating one-of-a-kind handbags, I want fabrics that feel just as special as the finished piece. I don't just buy fabric because it's pretty. I choose fabrics that tell a story.

Some make me think of hidden gardens. Others remind me of old libraries, vintage illustrations or peaceful walks through nature.

The right fabric can inspire an entire handbag design.

Sometimes I'll fall in love with a fabric long before I know what it wants to become... and that's one of my favourite parts of the creative process.

Do you have a favourite Robert Kaufman collection? Or is there another fabric designer you absolutely love? I'd love some recommendations! ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŒฑ Why I Choose Cork

One of the materials I love working with is cork fabric.

When I mention cork, people often picture a wine bottle stopper... but cork fabric is something entirely different.

It's an extraordinary natural material that's both beautiful and incredibly practical.

Did you know...

๐ŸŒณ Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak tree.

๐ŸŒณ The tree isn't cut down. Instead, the bark is carefully harvested by hand roughly every nine years, allowing the tree to continue growing and producing cork for generations.

๐ŸŒณ A single cork oak can live for well over 200 years.

๐ŸŒณ Harvesting the bark actually encourages the tree to absorb more carbon dioxide, making cork forests incredibly valuable ecosystems.

As a fabric, cork offers some wonderful benefits too.

โœจ Lightweight.
โœจ Surprisingly durable.
โœจ Soft and flexible.
โœจ Water-resistant.
โœจ Naturally antimicrobial.
โœจ Easy to wipe clean.
โœจ Vegan-friendly.
โœจ Every piece has its own unique grain and texture.

No two pieces are ever exactly alike, which is something I absolutely love. It means every MeganGaea creation made with cork has its own character.

I choose materials carefully. Not just because they're beautiful, but because they perform well and reflect the values behind my work.

Just. Start.

Exactly two years ago, I bought a sewing machine. Is it fancy? NO! It cost me about $700.

The last time I'd sewn anything before that?

1999.

Decades had passed.

I wasn't an expert. I didn't know how to make handbags. I made plenty of mistakes (still do).

But I started.

Two years later, MeganGaea and GAEA have grown into something I could never have imagined. Every bag, every BookBed, every market, every lesson, every late night... it all began with one decision.

To begin.

If you're waiting until you're "good enough"...
If you're waiting until you know everything...
If you're waiting for the perfect time...

Don't.

Just. Start.

Your future self will thank you for taking that first step. ๐Ÿ’›

Is there something you've been wanting to do but have been making excuses for? Kitchen garden? Pottery classes? Painting? I'd love to hear about it.
