WHAT. A. NIGHT!! πŸ’₯
Roller Derby Rivalry absolutely delivered!
The hits were hard, the crowd was loud, the characters were outrageous, the laughs were endless and the whole night was pure roller derby chaos in the best possible way.

A huge thank you to Uncle Chris McGregor-Sandy for welcoming us to Yuggera Country. It meant so much to begin the night in such a respectful way πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

From there, the night just kept getting better. We were lucky enough to have the Whoroboros rocking the venue all night - they were absolutely deadly and brought so much energy to an already electric atmosphere.

My favourite announcers Johnny Smash and Honest Dave were on the mic 🎀πŸ’₯ And I also got to debut my new derby name, Ironbark Maiden!! Having my family and friends there cheering made it even more meaningful πŸ₯°
I was proud to skate for the Misfits - punk rocker anarchists with a grudge against the Devotchkas! "Get hit, don't quit, we are Misfits!

Roller Derby Rivalry was everything I hoped it would be - full of theatrics, big hits, even bigger personalities, belly laughs and that oldskool derby magic that made me fall in love with this sport in the first place. It reminded me of the era that captured my heart, and seeing that energy making such a strong comeback was incredible.

If you missed the first round of Roller Derby Rivalry - or you want to experience all the crashes, huge hits, theatrics and fun for yourself - you need to get to round 2!

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who made this event happen. To the officials, referees, NSOs, volunteers, announcers, photographers, medics, everyone who gave their time to set up the venue, pack it all down afterwards and worked tirelessly behind the scenes - AMAZING work bringing everything together!! Thank you for a super nostalgic night of derby mayhem πŸ’₯

Thank you to Super Ordinary for providing such a deadly space for roller derby to thrive, and to everyone who came along to cheer, laugh, drink, dance and embrace the chaos with us.

My cheeks are still sore from smiling, and my heart is so full. Here's to the revival of oldskool roller derby!!

Part 2: A huge acknowledgement to the TGSS organisers for the way they connected with local mob and community this year. The care taken to not just include Indigenous voices, but to centre them, has raised the bar and set the standard of what meaningful inclusion looks like in Australian roller derby.

Along with so many mob from TID, I personally felt supported in ways that went beyond participation. There was a clear respect for our sovereignty, our ways of being and how we chose to show up.

Cultural labour is a heavy load to carry for our mob, so getting to experience such a beautiful, grounding Welcome to Kaurna Country and blessing with ochre that was organised by the deadly volunteers behind TGSS meant more than I can say. Getting to sing and dance up Country with the crowd before our game, reading about Team Indigenous Lore and seeing our beginnings memorialised in the art installation were also magical moments where we felt held in our culture, community and spirit.

I’m thankful to share that Skating On Sacred Land received equity assistance through a partially subsidised vendor stall, which was immensely helpful in bringing our art and message from Magandjin/Meanjin to Kaurna Country. Throughout the weekend we felt deeply supported, with ongoing check-ins from the Ops Team and so much generosity, encouragement and engagement from the community.

That level of commitment doesn’t just make space for First Nations voices - it transforms it.

There were so many moments this weekend where derby felt bigger than the game itself - All quiet reminders that community is, and always will be, at the heart of everything we do.

The scores will be forgotten and the rankings will change - But the feeling of belonging, representation, visibility and collective joy will stay.

Grateful doesn’t feel like enough.
Thank you to everyone who shared this journey with us πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

And the biggest thank you to my Husband Michael, who we can all agree is the real MVP. He goes above and beyond to help out and support my derby journey, and I'm endlessly grateful xx

Part 1: TGSS 2026 has come to an end, and I’m reflecting on a weekend I won’t forget.

My heart is so full πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

There is something incredibly special about seeing thousands of people come together through a shared love of this weird, wonderful sport. None of it happens without the countless hours poured in by host leagues, volunteers, officials, announcers, photographers, medics, vendors, supporters and everyone working behind the scenes. Thank you for creating spaces where our community can gather, compete, connect and thrive.

This year was particularly special for me as I was voted Captain of Team Indigenous Dreaming for TGSS.

Watching our team come together from different Nations, communities, leagues and lived experiences, carrying our stories, our Ancestors and our love for this sport will live rent free in my soul forever.

I am proud of every skater who pulled on our jersey - some for the very first time, others to continue our legacy - And I'm proud of the visibility, representation, strength and joy we brought to the track.

One of the most powerful parts of this weekend was sharing space with Gender Ending Story.

Donut said it perfectly in her acknowledgement; that across many Indigenous cultures, diverse gender identities, roles and ways of being existed long before colonial systems attempted to erase them. Standing together on the track was a reminder that the rigid ideas of gender many of us navigate today are rooted in colonisation, and have caused deep and lasting harm.

Together - We declonise roller derby.

And we celebrate visibility, resistance, safety in sport, healing and belonging - Which is a powerful reminder of why our teams exist.

The Men’s Roller Derby World Cup was full of powerful moments, but one that has really stayed with me was seeing API Fury take the track πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€

A team of Asian and Pacific Islander skaters and supporters reaching beyond borders. A powerful reminder of what becomes possible when high level derby makes space for identity, culture and community to move together.

Like Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, there is no single Asian experience. The Asian diaspora is made up of many different histories - people who are, or are the children of, immigrants, war refugees and adoptees - each carrying their own stories, identities and connections to home, and fighting for the chance to represent their people.

I respect that fight.

In Team Indigenous Dreaming - the borderless team I'm proud to skate for - we acknowledge the ongoing systemic disadvantage that continues to echo through Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities today, including the financial barriers that too often exclude our people from participating in sport at all levels.

Right now, we don’t have enough mob in derby to create a representative team of our own. So we welcome and stand alongside Indigenous and First Nations peoples from across the globe who live on these lands now called Australia - mob from many countries, many cultures, connected through shared histories of colonisation, cultural erasure, resistance and survival.

For us, it means something deep to witness API Fury out there. To see a team built around cultural pride and collective identity. And to know that some of our own TID skaters - who also identify as Asian and Pacific Islander - could be part of that story in the future too.

With the rise of more borderless teams, I’m excited for what this means moving forward.

More pathways.
More visibility.
More chances to represent where we come from, and who we are.
More representation at World Cup level, and more spaces carved out for Blak and Brown skaters in a sport that hasn’t always made room for us.

If this is what the future of roller derby looks like - I’m so here for it πŸ”₯ Congrats on your World Cup debut API! You inspire me beyond words
