The Nest Early Education Centre of Excellence :: With the client’s brief and our Nest themes in mind, the concept for the main podium play space included a central narrow courtyard flanked by covered verandas as intentional social gathering spaces, while the large open space presented an opportunity for height, flexible play scenarios, and sensory play.

The original pre-concept courtyard featured a catenary shade system with printed fabric and woven cane baskets creating the effect of enclosure and subtleties of dappled light, moveable activity cubbies, planter boxes to create separation between the veranda, a custom feature bench to define the spaces and
essentially ‘slow down’ the movement and break the linearity.

The captivating centrepiece at the end of the courtyard is the tall custom Nest, a steel-framed structure which bridges the water channel. The design offers developmental benefits including an elevated outdoor classroom, secluded play and a climbing wall for challenge and mobility. The design has been executed to represent a nest. For us to achieve this incredible bird’s nest concept, we engaged local artist, Sharon McGuinness from Creative play spaces to complete the weave 🕊️

Gives new meaning to natural decorations
