This is our grandfather, Gerald Blitner, with a massive barra he caught near Ngukurr in the early '80s while serving as Chairman of the NLC. My big brother, Alan Busbridge, passed this photo on to me. This fish has been the subject of family yarns for as long as I can remember.
But this photo isn't just about a big barra. It's about family. It's about tradition. It's about passing stories down through generations 🩵
What's the biggest fish you've ever caught — or the biggest fishing story in your family?

Everyone joined in this weekend as it wasn’t just about the hunt. It was about preparations for a birthday celebration ~ the Saltwater Cowboy way.

Stingray fat (liver) is good eating, but before preparing it we need to remove the gall bladder. We cut it out carefully without rupturing it as it holds bile which is a bitter digestive fluid. If it bursts, it can contaminate the liver, so we remove it carefully.

Once the fishing's done, the real work starts ~ Gut it. Clean it. Cook it.
Worth every bite. 🎣🔥

Our Jaju Bingy (granddaughter) hooked the first catch of the day ~ we had to lend her a helping hand getting it in as it was a massive stingray 🔥
