What a fantastic gem show at Hawkesbury showgrounds this weekend. Many thanks to the organising committee from the Gem and Lapidary Council NSW. Totally exhausted by Sunday night, but in a good way.
Was 35 degree Celsius on Saturday outside and hotter within the metal pavilion we were in. A bit tough on a Tassie girl 🥵😂 Sunday was much cooler, but nothing stopped the lovely people of Sydney from stopping by to say hello and have a look at our collection.
Hopefully we will see you all again next year.

Hello there Sydney Western Suburbs and surrounds. We are excited to be heading your way this weekend for the State Gem and Mineral Expo at Hawkesbury showgrounds Clarendon. Open this Saturday and Sunday.
We have some awesome new product on board. Of course it is hard to call anything opal "new" as opal was forged by nature between 2 million and 100 million years ago 😅
What we mean is some freshly fashioned gems cut from the original rough stone and now coming to you as pendants, rings, and a completely new range of single studs for those who like to mix it up. We have a selection of 10 or so larger size opal rings, so dont hesitate to call by and ask. Of course we have a stunning selection of cut and polished stones if you intend to design your own pieces. Hope we see you on the weekend.

How much water are you using at your cabbing machine. I run mine pretty high, and here’s why:

• It keeps my opals from overheating; the entire wheel stays wet, with no dry spots which means no heat friction
• It keeps the dust down; the opal and rock I’m grinding are saturated, turning into more of a sludge/mud rather than creating airborne dust.
• I’ve personally found it gives me a little more longevity from my wheels; keeping the wheel consistently wet helps reduce dry friction, dry friction brings faster ‘wear and tear’ to the wheels especially if your water is more of a drip than a continuous flow

The cons?
You’ll get wet.
You’ll get dirty.
If you’re working with Boulder, that’s unavoidable anyway. All part of the job description 😁⛏️

It was farewell to Lorne station, our camp site for a week, while we visited lightning ridge.
Were very pleased to pick up some rough boulder opal. Looks like the dremel might get a bit of a workout when we get home.
Headed south East, back across the great Dividing Range and onto NSW south coast. Beautiful farming country.

The sun is setting at Lightninge Ridge as we settle in to camp for the next 5 nights.
Since we left Innisfail we have crossed the Great Dividing Range, lunched with a friend in Sapphire, crossed the Queensland/NSW border and covered some 1700km.
Hopefully we might track down some opal rough while we are here.

What a fantastic day at innisfail gemfest today. We met and chatted with so many delightful people. Total country hospitality with home made sweet treats with coffee. Thank you Innisfail Gem Club & Allied Craft Club Inc for being such excellent hosts.
