Signatur Handknits are the designs of Sydney based Jane Slicer-Smith, Author of Swing Swagger Drape.

Handknitting in Australian Wool, designs are available as knitting kits, patterns and finished garments. Jane Slicer-Smith designs the most stunning and unique Hand Knits as bespoke garments, kits to knit yourself, or as patterns. Signatur Handknits are made from Australian Pure New Wool and the finest fancy yarns. Jane is also the author of Swing Swagger Drape: Knit the Colors of Australia. There

Mitre knitting is all about colour, created by knitting two row stripes with a centre decrease, most rewarding and easy colour work. To create garments the Mitres are worked in sequence from the hem up, worked either as garter stitch stripes, or a combination of garter and st-st stripes. I have created Aline coats one one piece with just shoulder seams, or created garments by knitting Mitres into panels and picking up the stitches from the panels to knit to first the armhole edge cast off and then the side seam cast off = easy chest size adjustmant possible. Thought I'd have a little fun with some black, white and grey colourways. The Bee Bee Jacket, which is Blazer Style, Blocks Cardigan - greys and also cream beige cotton combination, Coco Shawl panel Cardigan with a close up on the cuff and my niece wearing one of the first metro Aline Coats - lovely photo of her.
All design sold as knitting kits and patterns. Knitting kits have Australian wool, the patterns and handmade buttons if required.

I have always loved to create hand knitted blazers, stepping away from the everyday cardigan. This story started with the Bee Bee Jacket, knitted in four main colours colours and two highlight colours, and it's about how small a proportion of colour can be used with 3 row stripes and bobbles.
All my designs have multiplie chest sizes and with my blazers two length options.
The Stitched Up jacket - I popped a small pocket - though it looks like a patchwork pocket it is actually knitted with the front, gives a far superior finish.
In both design the Basket Stitch buttonband is knitted as one with the body of the garment (knitted hem up and back and front pieces). Colours are worked from a diagram - there are no graphs for these blazers.
Knitting kits include Signatur 8ply, pattern and hand made buttons.
I have popped an image in of the collar, after the shoulder cast off the remaining stitches form the collar, the basket stitch continues in length to a three needle bind off at the back neck.

I brought swingcoats into my range in the 1990's, styled to fit at the shoulder and swing over the hips. The body is knitted with three different needle sizing, knitted in Signatur 8ply with 21sts to 10cm/4"on 4mm ndls. I write the instructions for the sleeves first - to double check your tension and also allow you to work the stitch pattern or colour technique over a fewer number of stitches. Then to add swing and drape the body (knitted hem up) is cast on with 4.5mm ndls, as the body is shaped with decreases per panel (between cables) the needles are deceased a size, and after the armhole shaping the needles reduce to 3.75mm - a firmer tension to support the weight of the garment. Simple really!
Designs are Diamond Cable Swing, the side seam hidden by the pattern with round neck and Shawl collar options in the pattern. The Fan and Cable Swing, which is round neck only, but is available with a shawl collar in a dress coat style shown in blue. The Tudor Swagger has the Autumn leaves, this is a more generous fit the than Diamond and is still fitted at the shoulder but is fuller across the shoulders. Lastly the Times cable Swing in Blues, styed generous as the Times Swing.

Letting the texture create the story - always love cables, add single Moss, Double Moss expand to Basket stitch, jog on the spot for bobbles, create Bells, then onto travelling stitches for Diamonds, Crosses and Zig Zags, short row shaping on hemlines and collars, knitted on button bands, collars and cuffs, Signatur handknits is all about detail. OPEN NOW!!! Sydney Artisans Portugal Club Sat 23 & Sun 24 May 100 Marrickville Rd 10am to 3pm. This market is full of fun and original ideas, upcycled clothing, jewelry, Signatur Handknits of course, pottery, woodwork, a little tipple of gin and the best Portuguese Tarts are amongst the stall holders. Come and meet the makers and cocktail shakers!
Two minutes stroll from Sydneham Station, also heaps of free off street parking. Food vans and if you are lucky you might get to see the flying trapeze in action too!
