This morning I stood in the yard watching my hen fuss over her baby chicks.

This is how I start most days. My coffee in hand and checking in with my animals.

Lately, I’ve realised these moments are it. This is what success looks like to me.

From the moment I left high school I chased my career and then once I became a mum, I poured everything into building my business.

From the outside, I was successful. But there was always something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

Now, while I no longer have Zilvi and I’m starting over with my career and business, I’ve never felt more successful.

Because I’ve found peace.

Gratitude comes easily to me now. My morning coffee. The view of the bush from my couch. My animals. The quiet rhythm of this little life. I feel deeply thankful for what I have and to me, that’s what success really is.

While we were travelling two years ago, I read something that has stayed with me ever since. A guy on Instagram said he measured success by the amount of peace he felt in his life, not by the things he owned.

I’ve carried those words with me.

Because if that’s the measure, I think I’ve found what I was looking for.

Peace isn’t loud. Most days, it just looks like ordinary life.

Maybe success was never about having more. More money. More belongings. The perfect house.

Maybe it was always about noticing what was already here.

And being grateful enough to realise it.

Dad pecked a chick, Mama protected her baby and sent him a warning. A mother’s duty.

Spot the tiny feet under her.

Seriously!

I’ve been thinking a lot about how I show up now that I’m not Zilvi anymore.

For 12 years, I shared pieces of my life here. The soft moments. The beautiful parts. I made it look like I had found the perfect rhythm of life.

But life was always so much more than the moments I chose to share. The behind the scenes. Our imperfect home, the failures, the natural disasters that were destroying our property and resulting in crippling anxiety, the neighbour that bullied us until we sold, the secondary infertility - then divorce, the raising of our son under different roofs. And now the rebuilding of pieces of myself I lost along the way.

Somewhere in the middle of all of that, I realised I don’t want this space to be about showing you a life you need to aspire to. No longer a highlight reel.

This space isn’t here to influence you. I’m not here for you to look up to. Sit with me. Sit beside me.

This is where I want to meet you. In the ordinary.

I haven’t shaved my legs in weeks. I’m in yesterday’s jeans and jumper. I have neck creases that tell you I’m turning 46.

My bathroom is unfinished. I’ve turned an old tool shed into a home. Not the home you’d find in the pages of a magazine or the polished streets of the suburbs.

But it’s mine.

There are wet towels on the floor waiting to be washed. None of them match. There are unfinished corners of my home and countless reminders that life is happening here.

My spot on the internet is a place where you don’t need to perform. I won’t be.

Come as you are. I will be.

Happy 12th Birthday Zilvi. See my previous post. I need to tell you something.

I opened my store on 2 July 2014.

It makes sense to share my announcement with you on this date, 12 years on.

See you then.

I’d walk through every hard day and make every difficult decision, over and over again for him. That is motherhood.
