It’s a bit cold in Brisbane right now, but not in my sewing room😊
This is one of my favourite summer dresses I completed recently, Simplicity – it has bright colours and is made of lightweight rayon fabric from . Two sashes were made in both plain and printed fabrics to create more options to wear (which one would you choose?😊).
This dress fits very well, the only thing that was altered is the sleeve bands. After a few wears, I decided that the sleeve band needed to be reduced in circumference. So, I altered it by 7.5 cm, and it fits better. I added a photo of the sleeve band below (Before and After photo). I am totally satisfied with the results.

It has been a while since I posted any sewing updates here!
Working full time means that I do not have much time to sew for myself and do unique patternmaking. So, I tried a few commercial sewing patterns and one of them is pattern McCall’s .
I made two dresses recently. For the first one, which was navy with border print, I used fabric from my stash, and I had almost 1 metre less than what I needed. I cut it crosswise, shortened the sleeves a bit and everything worked out pretty well. I also added a removable, beaded neckline decoration that is held on a clasp and ring.
With the second dress, which was the green/blue peacock print, I got the right length of fabric. I also did some pattern adjustments, such as shortening the front and back by 1cm, taking in the side seams of the waistline by 1 cm, and making the right length of sleeves. Just a few little alterations made this summer dress even more comfortable. So yes, I would say, my experience with this pattern was very successful!

This is the Rasant Colour Chart, one of my most helpful tools when trying to colour match my threads. It helps you to choose the exact colour you need that you can then order online.
Would definitely recommend!

Grade 9 Semi-formal dress for my beautiful Diana. Design idea and details by Diana. I am just the maker: Patternmaking, 2 toiles, hours and hours of sewing and voila! The dress is finished! She was so happy to get exactly what she dreamed of.

I recently had the opportunity to create two experimental designs, the Leena Top and Clare Skirt using original printed fabric panels.
The botanically printed fabric panels incorporated into my designs were created by fabric artist Anastasia Gonchar at Angonature
These two upcycled pieces of linen were hand-printed using local Australian eucalyptus leaves.
Anastasia creates unique botanical prints with natural dyes. The ways she applies the dyes or leaves create unbelievable colours, shades and prints on different types of fabric such as linen, cotton and silk.

Inspired by these two pieces, I started with basic sketches/designs, then made all the patterns and sewed the garments.
I used two types of linen fabric for the front and ruffle of the top from The Fabric Store - Australia. Hand stitches were added at the front of the top to emphasize construction lines and the shape of the top.
Contrast cotton sateen fabric and shell buttons from Spotlight were added to the skirt to continue the earthy colour palette.

Finally, I had a chance to wear the mid season coat that I made during my fashion study last year. It was an amazing trip to Melbourne where I visited a few places, the most important one being the Gabrielle Chanel – Fashion Manifesto exhibition. I will share some photos about my trip a bit later.

I made this coat using wool blend fabric, Japanese cotton for lining and binding from Spotlight .
It is a coat with a yoke and centre fold at the back, welt pocket at the front, reversible belt and high stand collar. It is quite a simple design that I wanted to make a bit brighter by adding Japanese cotton as the back side/reverse side of the belt, inner yoke and binding. I also added unique contrasting buttons.

It was so comfortable to wear, and felt soft and warm.
