I don’t know what’s wrong with me… not only my second post in the same week, but I’m actually ahead of the curve for once, making things for the next Sydney Street Fair in December so I don’t end up in my usual running-out-of-time frenzy! 😱

I know no one wants to contemplate Christmas in August (although July is acceptable!) but I wanted to share these little tree decorations hot off the bench. I love finding uses for those ‘boring’ pearly top shirt buttons people throw out; when the light hits them they softly glow like moonlight. Other than the plastic-coated wire, all of the elements I’ve used have been rescued and repurposed, turning jetsam into ‘jems’ 🌻

Swapping my jewellery hat for my vintage clothing one, may I introduce the most insanely fabulous Art Deco-inspired 70s velvet jacket from… gasp!… Katies!

Pierre Arletty was Katies’ swanky “French” label, and frankly this wouldn’t look out of place in Paris today.

Featuring super wide lapels, nipped in waist and DEEP pockets (huzzah!) and a fabulous Deco-informed botanical landscape in aqua, light blu, cornflower blue, tan, off-white on black.

Vintage 12, would best fit modern 8-10. My mannequin measures 87cm chest, 64cm waist and 92cm hips, and the jacket fits comfortably, not too tight.

It’s almost immaculate, but for some small, easy to miss spots on one section of the back, and a very small spot on the left lapel. These would possibly come out with a dry clean but with such a busy pattern, they’re almost unnoticeable.

$90, post extra, pick up from Sydney’s inner west.

Ai carumba what an amazing day! Absolute madness in the best possible way, with loads of my Bra-vissima earrings and button studs being snapped up by discerning supporters of handmade and makers.

A huge thank you to sydneystreet.gallery for hosting such a brilliant array of makers and helping make the market trail such a success. And a shout out to the fabulous artisans who were so lovely to be amongst.

I was thrilled that my not-for-wallflowers “Blue For Claret-y” found its new home yesterday with Jack, after managing to convince his friend (who’d spotted it first) that he should stick to red jewellery! 😄 He wore this matte gold and blue antique late 19th-early 20th century decanter label and dazzling cobalt blue rivoli chain directly its first social outing that day 💙

Save the date for the Sydney Street Fair on December 5, when more of my weird adornments will be seeking their people 💙

SOLD! Of course I spectacularly failed to take a good photo of this necklace - The Ultimate Badge Draw - beforehand so am having to making do with this old one, but hopefully it will be seen by many when worn by its fabulous new owner.

Doors are open at the Sydney Street Gallery for the Winter Market Trail, set up and firing on all cylinders (ok most, after too many late nights!)

After a chilly 5C load in, it’s a glorious day and perfect for checking out all the makers and studios open for creative business.

We’re here from 10am-4pm at sydneystreet.gallery 19 Sydney Street Marrickville.

Some more contenders for my stall this Saturday at sydneystreet.gallery

I stumbled across these colourful wooden buttons I’d painted ages back while I was looking for something else (the story of my life!) and finally made something with them!

I’ve been having such fun with the fishing lure pieces and want to keep them all, but am nobly stifling my hoarding nature to offer them up for sale 😘

And I’ve held onto some of my vintage decanter labels for decades, waiting to uncover the perfect (mostly!) vintage components to give them a new look and purpose, and these two more will (hopefully!) find some room on my table.

And now for something with reel al-lure! The first of my fishing lure necklaces, with a chain created from reclaimed swivels to ensure a very sustainable catch.

A little taster of what I’ve been working on for the Sydney Street Maker’s Market Trail, rapidly approaching on July 25!

I’m also madly experimenting with bra hardware necklaces, hand painted vintage glass and acrylic button rings, fishing lure neck wear and more. All dropping in just under 2 weeks’ time at the sydneystreet.gallery at 19 Sydney Street Marrickville, 10-4pm Saturday July 25.

Story time: My eldest sister is a brilliant knitter, and made a fabulous green cable knit cardi for her granddaughter. The road to hell being paved with good intentions, her partner threw it in the washing machine with a load, and her gorgeous knit came out a shrunken, felted tragedy.

I hung onto it for some years thinking I could possibly do something creative with it but, finally admitting I can’t possibly produce every single idea (or whisper of one), I gifted it to the delightful Keith Lo Bue of who - with his extraordinary talent, skills, superb craftsmanship and magic -transformed the ruin into this brilliant 1920s/30s style cap.

I take my hat off to Keith for giving this story a truly happy (cappy?) ending! 💚
