MORE THAN JUST A CRICKET SHIRT. A STORY OF CULTURE, CONNECTION & FAMILY. ❤️🏏

Every design tells a story, and the new Thomson Cricket Club Indigenous artwork carries a meaning that goes far beyond the cricket field.

Created by Indigenous artist Jhiah Baxter (Mob: Nygena Walmatjurri), whose family connections are from the Kimberley region of North Western Australia, this artwork reflects his cultural connection, personal journey and the strong sense of belonging within the Thomson Cricket Club community.

Born and raised on Wadawurrung Country in Geelong, where he continues to live and practise culture, Jhiah has been part of the Thomson Cricket Club for many years, including being part of the 2017–2018 premiership.

When developing this design, Jhiah spoke with club members and players about what Thomson Cricket Club means to them.

One message kept coming through: FAMILY.

For Jhiah, Thomson is more than a cricket club. It's a place of safety, support, belonging and connection — a place people can call home and somewhere we can forget about the troubles of everyday life.

Every element of the artwork represent what makes the Thomson family so special:

The Shield – Represents the safety and protection found within the club.

The Boomerangs – Symbolise strength, resilience and power.

The River – running through the middle represents the different paths people have travelled before finding their way to Thomson.

The Meeting Places – Reflect the families, teams, players and individuals who come together to build the Thomson community.

Finally, the 12 People – surrounding the boomerangs represent the 11 players and coach who take the field together each week.

This is more than artwork on a cricket shirt. It's a representation of identity, culture, shared journeys and the family that has been built at Thomson Cricket Club.

A powerful reminder that a club is about more than the game. It's about the people, the stories and the connections that bring everyone together.
