The pelisse sleeves are double layered. A short puff sleeve over a long sleeve. Here I have added a cut and fold to reveal the white accent underneath. Now to stitch the sleeve hem.

Hand sewing the squirrel motif in red rouleaux. And despite measuring the length carefully with string first, I was about 2cm short. I think the cord was thicker and that changed the length needed. Now to find the perfect button eye to cover the missing length. Always problem solving along the way.

Rouleaux trim was popular in the Regency era to decorate and create beautiful garments. I'm using this technique to create a raised squirrel motif on the back of the red hessian pelisse.
Rouleaux takes narrow bias-cut strips, sewing them into fabric tubes.
I made a couple of samples with different cores preferring to use a softer flexible core (pink). I also tried machine sewing and turning the tubes right-side out. That didn't work so I ended up hand sewing about 4m of rouleaux.
