Sometimes you don’t realise just how far you’ve come until you stop and look back.

And then you see it…
God was there. In all of it.

In the heartbreak. In the waiting. In the moments you didn’t know how you were going to keep going. In the prayers whispered through tears that nobody else ever heard.

There were days I thought, I can’t do this anymore.
But somehow, I did.

Not because I was strong every single day… but because God carried me on the days I wasn’t.

And when I look back now, I don’t just see everything I survived.

I see Him🤍☦️

Still here. Still standing. Still believing 🙏

☦️ The Eve of the Dormition

For the past fourteen days, we have fasted, prayed, reflected, surrendered, forgiven, hoped and placed so much beneath the Holy Veil of the Most Holy Theotokos.

And tomorrow, 15 August, we celebrate one of the most beloved feasts of our Orthodox faith, the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.

So why have we fasted?

Not simply to change what we eat.

We fast to quiet the body so the soul can speak louder.
We fast to make more room for prayer.
To practise self-control.
To repent.
To forgive.
To soften our hearts.
And above all, to draw closer to Christ.

These days have been a preparation.

A reminder that the Panagia’s entire life pointed toward her Son. Her humility, her obedience, her suffering, her faith, everything led to Christ.

And tomorrow, as we remember her falling asleep in the Lord, we are also reminded of something beautiful:

death is not the end.

The Dormition is filled with hope, the hope of resurrection, the hope of eternal life, and the promise that those who belong to Christ are never truly lost.

Tomorrow, many of us will go to church, light our candles, pray, attend the Divine Liturgy and honour the Mother of God. And then, after these days of fasting, we celebrate.

Not because the prayer ends.

But because the fast has hopefully changed something within us.

May we leave these fourteen days a little softer.
A little more prayerful.
A little more forgiving.
A little closer to Christ.

Tonight, place your family beneath her Holy Veil once more.

Your children.
Your home.
Your worries.
Your health.
Your departed loved ones.
And every prayer still waiting for an answer.

Most Holy Theotokos, intercede for us sinners.
Protect our families and our homes.
Lead us always to your Son.

Some of the most beautiful people in our lives are found in the chapters we never would have chosen for ourselves🤍

The ones who sat beside us when life felt heavy. Who checked in when everyone else went quiet.
Who prayed for us when we didn’t have the words to pray for ourselves.
Who reminded us that we weren’t walking through it alone.

Hard seasons have a way of showing you who is truly there, and sometimes, in the middle of everything falling apart, God places exactly the right people beside you.

And when you come out the other side, you never forget them.

Day Thirteen • Preparing Our Hearts

📖 Scripture

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.”
— Luke 1:46–47

⛪️ Reflection

We are nearing the end of our journey.

For thirteen days we have prayed, surrendered, forgiven, hoped, and asked God to soften our hearts.

Now, as the Feast of the Dormition draws near, let us become still.

Like the Most Holy Theotokos, may our hearts simply magnify the Lord. May we make room within ourselves for gratitude, peace, and the quiet presence of Christ.

🙏 Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Most Holy Theotokos, as we approach your blessed Dormition, help me to prepare my heart.

Quiet the noise within me. Remove the distractions that pull me away from God, and teach me to treasure His presence above all else.

Pray for me, Panagia mou, that I may carry a heart filled with gratitude rather than complaint, faith rather than fear, and love rather than judgement.

Lord Jesus Christ, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, prepare my soul to receive Your grace.

For everything You have carried me through, I thank You.
For every prayer You have heard, I thank You.
For every blessing I recognised—and every blessing I did not, I thank You.

May my soul, like hers, always magnify You.

Most Holy Theotokos, save us.

Through the prayers of our Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us.

Life hasn’t always been easy, and there have been mornings when gratitude felt harder to find. But even through the worry, the heartbreak and the seasons that have tested me, God has continued to place blessings all around me.

My girls. My faith. My family. Another morning to begin again.

Life may not be perfect, but there is still so much to thank God for. So today, I choose to count my blessings, especially the ones I once prayed for 🤍🙏🏻☦️

I don’t give up on people easily.
I stay longer than I should. I forgive, I understand, and I keep showing up, even when it costs me pieces of myself.

But there comes a point when choosing you means abandoning me.

So if I finally walk away, know that it wasn’t because I stopped caring. It was because I became tired of being drained, disappointed and taken for granted by someone who was comfortable receiving everything while giving almost nothing.

My absence isn’t punishment.
It’s the boundary I should have set a long time ago 🙏🤍
