From a very young age, Cam was destined to both create & build. "I grew up watching Mum and Dad turn their hand to whatever they needed to. By the time I turned six, I could mix mortar, make home-made bricks, compost, MIG weld, w**d the garden and knew most hand tools and sheet metal machinery by name." Over the next 10 years, family members and close family friends invested time in exposing Cam t
o all manor of trades. Working during school holidays at the family sheet metal factory, a friend’s shop-fitting business, a Go-cart manufacturer, drainage contracting with Uncle Pete, a jack of all trades with Uncle Brian, a brickies labourer with Uncle Dave, welder & fabricator with Dad, even operating heavy machinery before he was a teenager. "I remember cleaning a local business at the age of 11 to save money to buy my own power tools. I wanted to build furniture, but without a workshop, I had to convince Mum to let me use the family room to test them out." By the time he started his first real landscaping job with Trevor Butler in Perth, he was well accustomed to many areas of site work. After years of sub-contracting as a roof plumber, gardener, excavator operator, stone mason and handyman to name some, Cam turned up to a job to install lattice privacy screens on a property in Beeliar, and asked the client a very simple question. "What do you want to use this area for?"
After designing & installing an entire make over for that client, Cam started to realise his design abilities and the unstoppable passion he had for solving site issues while still achieving unique aesthetic appeal for the people he designed for. Shortly after, a friend handed him $5000 and said, “Cam just go out there & start doing this for yourself. You are already doing it for someone else's business". That kick started his freelance design career in Perth & he has been learning on the job ever since. There's something very different in how Cam thinks. He has an incredible eye for detail, is grounded by his construction knowledge, yet pushes the boundaries of design in a very intelligent way. Cam is equal parts perfectionist, inventor, artist, artisan, Tradesman & mad professor.
