Why does ethical fashion cost more than fast fashion?

One of the key reasons is fair labour costs.

When a business is accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, they have verified through an in-person audit that their supply chain is compliant from design to dispatch. This means the people who work within their local supply chain are protected, respected and paid fairly according to Australian workplace laws. No underpayments, no exploitation.

Additionally, ethical fashion is timeless and built to last. It's not thrown away after one season or a few wears. From quality materials to craftsmanship, to slower production and smaller quantities – ethical fashion can take more time and skills to create compared to their fast fashion counterparts.

When you see our trademark ‘e’ on garment labels or swing tags, you can shop with confidence knowing that the people who made your garments were treated with respect and paid a living wage.

France has officially passed a law targeting ultra-fast fashion, including a ban on influencers promoting brands that rely on this business model.

The measure specifically targets companies associated with extremely rapid production cycles, such as Shein and similar platforms, with fines of up to €100,000 for violations. The influencer promotion ban takes effect on 1 January 2027.

The law is part of France’s wider effort to reduce textile waste and the environmental impact of ultra-fast fashion.

Beautiful fashion does not need to come at the expense of the planet!

Slow fashion teaches us value, patience, respect for nature. Wearable art takes slow fashion to a new level. Moral Fibre is a range of sustainably motivated garments celebrating the pristine environment and natural beauty we are blessed with in the Australian environment and giving nod to it's resilience.

Soon a range of luxurious garments will arrive that feature my art. When it does, we need to do a photo shoot for the Moral Fibre website and then we can start sharing our beautiful clothing with the world.
