Breastfeeding is hard enough to navigate without having to worry about myths! But let's be honest there are plenty of them out there!

Here just 5 of the most common myths we have heard busted! Let us know some others you have heard in the comments. 👇

Did you know that the composition of your breastmilk can change based on whether you’re feeding a son or a daughter? It’s an incredible biological adaptation that shows just how attuned our bodies are to our babies' needs!

Mothers of sons produce milk with higher fat, protein, and total calories to help fuel their growth and energy needs. Daughters, on the other hand, receive greater quantities of milk that’s rich in calcium, which supports their bone development. These differences are especially pronounced in first-time mothers.

It’s amazing to think that your breastmilk is constantly adjusting to meet your baby’s needs, even adapting based on whether you’re feeding a boy or a girl.

76% of mothers told us they faced barriers to accessing breastfeeding support.

Read that again.

Not barriers to breastfeeding.
Barriers to getting HELP.

For something that is universally recognised as one of the best investments in the lifelong health of mothers and babies, why is getting support still so difficult?

Why are mothers still saying:
đź’¬ "I didn't know where to go."
đź’¬ "I couldn't get an appointment."
đź’¬ "I was told it was normal."
đź’¬ "I couldn't afford private support."
đź’¬ "I stopped before I wanted to."

We celebrate breastfeeding during awareness weeks.

We tell mothers that "breast is best."

But when they're in pain at 2am, struggling with engorgement, mastitis, low milk supply or a baby who won't latch...

Where is the support then?

The reality is this:

Too many mothers are expected to navigate one of the biggest physical and emotional transitions of their lives with fragmented care, outdated advice and limited access to evidence-based support.

And when breastfeeding doesn't go to plan, the burden too often falls on the mother—as though she simply didn't try hard enough.

It shouldn't be this way.

If we genuinely value breastfeeding, then we must value the women doing it.

That means investing in better education.
Better access to lactation support.
More innovation.
More research.
More practical solutions.
And healthcare systems that don't leave mothers waiting until a small problem becomes a crisis.

Because breastfeeding support shouldn't be a privilege.

It should be part of standard maternal care.

Let's have the conversation. Because change starts when we stop accepting "that's just the way it is."

When we asked our community about their breastfeeding journey, 95% told us they experienced challenges, including:

👉 Engorgement
👉 Blocked ducts
👉 Mastitis
👉 Low milk supply

If that sounds familiar, please know this: you're not alone, and you don't have to simply put up with it.

Our founder, Etta, lived through these challenges herself. She experienced the pain, the frustration, the tears, and the endless advice to "just keep going." While gentle therapeutic breast massage helped her find relief, she knew there had to be a simpler, more effective solution that every mum could use at home.

That's why Lactamo was created.

Not as another breastfeeding gadget, but as a clinically validated solution designed to help mothers manage common breastfeeding challenges using the combined power of temperature, movement and compression to facilitate therapeutic breast massage and lymphatic drainage.

Because mothers deserve more than outdated advice and trial-and-error.

They deserve evidence-based support that helps them continue breastfeeding with greater comfort and confidence.

If breastfeeding feels harder than you expected, we're here to help. đź’—

Apparently, breastfeeding was supposed to be the most natural thing in the world.

What nobody mentioned was...

"Your milk will just know exactly how much to make."
➡️ Cue the engorgement. The leaking. The freezer bags. Or wondering where your milk disappeared to.

"If it hurts, you're doing it wrong."
➡️ Breastfeeding can come with real challenges. Pain isn't something you should just "push through."

"Just put cabbage leaves on it."
➡️ Why did every fridge suddenly become a medicine cabinet?

"You'll sleep when the baby sleeps."
➡️ Sure... right after I wash pump parts, fold laundry, answer messages, eat something and stare lovingly at my baby for 20 minutes.

"Once breastfeeding is established, it's easy."
➡️ Growth spurts. Clogged ducts. Pumping. Returning to work. Teething. It's a journey.

"You can't overthink breastfeeding."
➡️ Me: Googling "Is my baby's latch normal?" at 2:17am for the seventh time.

The truth? Breastfeeding isn't about being perfect. It's about learning, adapting, asking for help, and finding what works for you and your baby. ❤️

What's your wildest breastfeeding advice you were given?

Warm Lactamo up to support let-down and milk flow, or cool Lactamo down to relieve swelling, inflammation, and oversupply.

Did you know the advice for treating mastitis has changed?

For years, many breastfeeding mothers were told to:
• Massage harder
• Apply lots of heat
• Pump until the breast was empty
• Start antibiotics immediately

But research has helped us better understand that many early cases are driven by inflammation, not simply a "blocked duct" or bacterial infection. That means the focus has shifted from forcing milk through the breast to reducing inflammation and protecting delicate breast tissue.

The latest recommendations from the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine include:
đź’— Gentle lymphatic drainage instead of deep massage
🧊 Cooling to reduce inflammation
🤱 Feeding as normal rather than over-pumping
đź’¤ Rest and supportive care
đź’Š Antibiotics only when clinically indicated

Breastfeeding science continues to evolve, and that's exactly what evidence-based care should do.

We spoke with about the latest guidance in treating mastitis. To learn more head to our blog.

Breastfeeding Accessories Product of the Year 🏆

For too long, breastfeeding has remained one of the most under-innovated areas of healthcare — despite the fact that around 92% of women experience challenges like engorgement, blocked ducts, mastitis, pain, and supply concerns.

For generations, parents have been offered improvised solutions rather than purpose-built, evidence-based support. That’s exactly what we set out to change.

At Lactamo, we’ve spent years working alongside researchers, clinicians, midwives and lactation consultants to build a clinically informed, purpose-designed tool to support breastfeeding parents — with care and science at the centre.

This award is more than recognition. It signals a shift:
that breastfeeding innovation matters,
that mothers deserve better solutions,
and that this space is finally being taken seriously.

We’re incredibly grateful — and even more motivated — as we continue expanding globally and supporting more families around the world.

This is just the beginning. đź’«
