Hair Festival 2026 recap Taylah’s POV, buckle up. 🤠

I jumped on the red eye flight from Adelaide to Sydney. Landed, mad dashed to hire a car, tried not to get lost, made it to ICC Sydney. Jen was already at the event, setting up & being super helpful while I was still figuring out how to turn ON my rental car. 🤣

The Empowered Indie session started and I don’t think either of us were prepared for how good it was going to be.

We were SO inspired by every single one of them. Like genuinely inspired, not just saying it for the caption. 🤣

And then it was Jen’s turn and she absolutely nailed it, obviously, because she always does. 💁‍♀️ I love watching Jen do her thing and inspire people.

Once it finished, we packed up, Jen ran everything down to the car, and I’ll be honest…I went straight to the main festival floor for the freebies. 🫣 Jen caught up with me and we properly had a look around at all the stalls.

Then it was home time for Jen and I did what any responsible adult would do and got Taco Bell, we don’t have it in SA. My non negotiable. Tried to enjoy Sydney for 20 minutes, then sprinted back to the airport. 🏃

Which brings me to the real crisis of the day. Between everything we’d collected I was WAY over the 7kg carry on limit. I ended up handing out freebies to strangers at the airport like Oprah. “You get a brush. You get a brush.” I see why Jen carries brushes in her car at all times now, giving away free stuff is a dopamine rush 🤣

Lastly, the biggest congratulations to Angela Rose. What she pulled off with this session, behind the scenes, for months - securing every speaker, planning every detail, making sure the goodie bags were actually good, running the whole thing on the day is enormous. ❤️

For weeks after I cut Rose's hair, I thought I'd fixed the problem. 🙌

Mornings were easier. No more tears before 8am. I actually felt like a good mum for the first time in months.

What I didn't clock was that Rose had gone quiet. Not sulking quiet, just quiet. She stopped talking about her hair altogether, which should have told me something, because she used to talk about it constantly. I was so relieved the fighting had stopped that I didn't stop to ask why.

It took her saying the words out loud for me to understand what I'd actually done. And once she said it, I couldn't unhear it.

I think about how many of us do this, solve the problem right in front of us without noticing the one we've created. Not because we're bad mums. Because we're tired, and tired mums take the fastest way out.
