It's almost never the leather. It's water, sweat, and lotion soaking into it day after day.
Real leather is supposed to age. It creases, it darkens, it picks up the shape of your wrist, that's not damage, that's character.
What it can't handle is being treated like it's waterproof. Every shower, every workout, every quick hand-wash you don't think about, a little water works its way in. Do that for months and the fibres dry out, stiffen, and start to crack. That's the breaking you're seeing, and by then it's already done. :warning:
The fix is almost annoyingly simple: take it off before the shower, before the gym, before the pool. :shower: If it does get wet, let it dry fully before you put it back on.
Treat it like leather, not like steel, and it'll last years instead of months. That's most of the difference, not the price, just the habits.
