City Wives Soiree
Gaborone, get ready to clear your calendar and iron your ivory. On Saturday, 1st August 2026, the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel & Convention Centre will trade its usual fairways for a different kind of power play when the City Wives Soirée takes over.
This is not your average ladies’ tea party with cucumber sandwiches and small talk. Organized
by City Wives Club BW, the soirée is billing itself as a lifestyle and empowerment event for the modern wife who is simultaneously a CEO, a mother, a community leader, and, yes, still expected to keep the home fires burning.
The dress code is Alabaster Grandeur, off-white, and ivory, with a graceful headdress to match. Think bridal elegance meets boardroom authority. And if the speaker lineup is anything to go by, the conversation will be just as polished as the dress code.
Dr. Figar Pheto, a private dentist with 23 years under her belt and a reputation for telling it straight. Her talk, Finding Your Balance: Juggling Career, Marriage and Academics, is aimed squarely at the woman who’s tired of being told she has to choose. Dr. Pheto, who runs her own clinic in Gaborone and has spent time speaking on platforms across the country, is known for her “no excuses” approach to purpose and resilience.
Then there’s Mme Thandie Gaborone, the Mohumagadi wa Batlokwa, who brings two decades of banking experience from Access Bank, BancABC, and Barclays into the room. But her focus on the day will be beyond finance.
Alongside Kgosi Puso Gaborone, she has been driving social, cultural, and economic development in Tlokweng, with a special emphasis on women’s empowerment and financial literacy. She is also laying the groundwork for a foundation aimed at smart village initiatives and entrepreneurship. If anyone knows how to turn dignity and compassion into policy, it is her.
For the women who feel like they’re losing themselves in the daily grind, Mrs. Kelly Mokoti is stepping in with Mental Health and Self Care in Marriage. A Havillah certified trainer, business coach, and Paris Women Changing the World Global Awards bronze winner, Mokoti blends faith, practicality, and a no-nonsense attitude to help women show up fully in every area of life.
Her work as a makeup artist and content creator has made her a relatable voice for women who want tools, not just platitudes. Legal minds will be leaning in when Mrs. Njiramanda Mbewe-Boatey takes the stage. The founder of Mbewe Legal Practice and a commissioner at the National Gender Commission, she’s making waves with her talk on, Divorce Red Flags, Legal Awareness to Safeguard Your Marriage.
A Mandela Washington Fellow with experience across South Africa, the UK, and the US, Mbewe-Boatey has been recognized internationally for her work in governance and women’s rights. Her message is clear: knowledge is protection, and ignorance is expensive. Marriage, from a spiritual and practical standpoint, will be covered by Pastor Kgalalelo Ramogapi.
The attorney-turned-philanthropist holds an MA in Ministerial Studies and brings a unique blend of legal precision and pastoral warmth to her talk, Marriage: In It for the Long Haul. If anyone can make a case for staying the course without romanticizing the struggle, it is her.
