Granville Street could stay car-free longer. 🚶

After two weeks of World Cup crowds, patios, and packed sidewalks, some Vancouver business leaders want the pedestrian zone to continue. The B.C. Restaurant and Foodservices Association is working on a request to the City of Vancouver to keep Granville Street pedestrian-only.

Local business owners say the car-free setup has made the street feel safer, livelier, and more welcoming. Some say it has also brought a much-needed boost to businesses after several difficult years. The city’s long-term Granville plan already includes a year-round pedestrian zone, but that part of the plan is not expected for another 11 to 20 years.
