Apparently, downsizing came with a rulebook. I must have missed my copy. 😏

You don’t have to get rid of everything.
You don’t have to move into a condo.
And you definitely don’t have to move just because the kids left.

There’s no one right way to downsize.

It’s about figuring out what works for your life, and what you want your next chapter to look like.

I had a full list today and not one item on it got crossed off while I was out here.

Gardening doesn't sell a house or return a phone call. But it's the thing that gets me quiet enough to think straight before I go do the hard part.

I see this with almost every downsizer I work with, the pause before the decision matters as much as the decision itself.

You can't skip the part where you sit with it.

Some are practical. Some are personal. And some I really wish I’d figured out a little sooner.

I wish I’d invested in real estate earlier.
I’ve learned that I absolutely cannot function without enough sleep anymore.

I value my time more than I value having more stuff.
And I’ve realized that you don’t always have to know exactly what comes next before you’re ready for a change.

Maybe that’s the biggest one.
Whether it’s your home, your career, your health, or just the season of life you’re in, sometimes knowing what no longer fits is enough to start figuring out what does.

I’m still learning. And I’m pretty sure that part never stops.

Downsizers are always apologizing because they don't know what they want next.
They know they don't need this much house anymore but they don't know what I want instead.

What they don't realize is, you don't have to know yet.

I convince people to let strangers walk through their house while they're not home, help them hide their family photos so buyers can't tell who they are, then encourage them to hand over the keys to a place they've lived in for 30 years... and sign over hundreds of thousands of dollars to someone they don't know.

When you put it that way, being a REALTOR® sounds a little suspicious. 😂
