Vintage 1970s 7UP “Drink Un-Anytime” Sign – NOS

Awesome original 1970s 7UP advertising sign featuring that unmistakable Peter Max-inspired psychedelic/pop-art look of the era.

This is the larger version, originally intended for use on a coin-operated pop cooler/vending unit, and is much harder to come across than the smaller examples.

NOS (New Old Stock) – never used, with fantastic bright colours and classic 70s graphics. A killer piece for any 7UP, soda advertising, vending machine, or general store collection.

A little Cherry Blossoms appreciation 🌸🥤

I’ve been slowly collecting Cherry Blossoms bottle toppers, and this little group makes me pretty happy. The highlight for me is definitely the 1921 Cherry Blossoms Company tin teeter-totter topper in the centre. Most of these little advertising pieces were cardboard, so the early tin one is extra special.

Cherry Blossoms dates back to at least the early 1920s and was sold through independent bottlers, with the slogan “A Blooming Good Drink.” They clearly knew how to make some damn good advertising too. 😂

Still hunting for more… because apparently six isn’t enough. 🌸😂

With the passing of Peter Max this week, I was thinking about one of my favourite little pieces of advertising history.

In the collecting world, we’ve all heard them called “Peter Max 7UP signs.” The funny part? Peter Max didn’t actually create the artwork for the famous 7UP Uncola signs.

That incredible psychedelic campaign was created by a whole group of artists... John Alcorn, Pat Dypold and many others...yet somewhere along the way, the entire style became so synonymous with Peter Max that collectors still refer to them as “Peter Max” signs.

I think that says something pretty incredible about his influence. His style became so recognizable and so representative of an era that his name ended up attached to an entire genre of advertising he didn’t even create.

As a 7UP collector, I’ve always found that fascinating.
