I went through a fast food line the other day and placed my order. The sweet girl looked at me and thanked me for being kind. I didn’t think I was going above and beyond…just being myself…but she said the people that were two cars before me were horrible to her. She looked like she was going to cry.

Be kind friends. You never know what people are going through.

That porch step, that laugh, that little face making the silliest expression just to see her smile back.

There's a moment when your mother holds your child and you catch something in her eyes you never saw when she looked at you — or maybe you did, and you were just too young to recognize it. Same hands that braided your hair, same voice that called you in for supper, now tilted toward a tiny person who has your nose and her stubbornness. The love didn't change. It just found a new place to start over.

The greatest gift you can give your parents is someone who makes them fall in love with you all over again.
