It refers to an open grassland found in south africa. Typically described as altitude zones such as highveld, middleveld, and lowveld. Fun fact of the day, and I really enjoy using it to name our infamous purple zebra. Tbh this one took the longest to name without it sounding so corny 😂

Dont worry ill still know what your talking about when you ask me about the purple zebra in person or wherever.😉

Haven’t shown my face around here for a while hey… Jeesh! Time to do a little reintroducing for 2026. Hello and welcome! My name is Shelby and im the woman behind the brand ! Im a self taught seamstress with direct ties to our family owned clothing manufacturer in Ecuador, as well as avid quilters and sewists from Newfoundland! I grew up with a sewing machine in the house since I can remember, and its been a passion of mine to be a designer and seamstress. I find so much joy being in my little world of fabrics and strings, thrifting and collecting old fabrics and clothing to make into something new. So needless to say being here, bringing this brand to life, and having such a wonderful community has been a dream come true. When im not in the swish world my real job is in forestry and tree planting. I just did my 10th season on the block this past spring and it’s been such a huge part of my life and shaped me in ways that i can only thank. From the mental gymnastics while choking on mosquitos, to being your own hype man and having to believe you can, to just finding the silver lining to finish the day… Looking back i have nothing but gratitude I chose to plant trees so long ago, for the mentorship and for the resilience it takes to keep putting one foot in front of the other. So whether you want to talk shop about fabrics and clothing design, we can also get really nerdy about forest ecology and nature. Due to my background, I feel like swish came so natural to me, blending my two life passions together to create unique utility wear that can be worn in so many settings. Whether it’s actually in the field with mud all over my face and a tape measure, to running to the grocery store with so many pockets to fill with chocolate and yerba mates, to saving people from losing their belongings and ditching bulky backpacks at the rave.. Swish has come to be in service of so many of you. Its the coolest thing ever !!! So hello to lots of new people and all my tried and true OG followers, and thanks a milllli for joining us here and supporting my dream, supporting ethical fashion practises, supporting families and fair pay. You’re all loved and appreciated big time !!!

I love a messy workspace. Juices are flowing, machines buzzing, leaving the station as is for a quick break, building and bringing a textile to life. Its simply fun and freeing when your lost in a project only to look up hours later when your body is like “Hey please pay attention to me!”.

Im in the process of re-integration with my home studio. A long long time has passed since I felt drawn here and now that its organized and rearranged im feeling a sense of return to this new flow space. Im only realizing now how long of a hiatus I really did take, funny how time just slips away when your focus is elsewhere. I was burnt out to be honest, and only sewing what was necessary for repairs and little things friends needed help with.

This winter I am feeling the inspo and the motivation to draft new designs and put all the fabrics I have been collecting to good use. Expect some shelbro behind the bench videos and one of a kind goodies coming outta here! As much as I love and appreciate the help of my family’s production team, I too am an avid self-taught seamstress who’s been sewing since a young age. I dont know what im to make yet but i’m excited to pick through some of the sewing patterns I have collected over the years.

Well now that this has turned into a rambling blog post drop a ❤️ if you made it this far. As much as asking for engagement makes my skin crawl and feel like a phony its literally the only free thing we can do for each-others businesses right now. The other option is to pay meta, which I think we can all agree that our money could be better spent literally anywhere else. So with that final thought, please support your friends, artists, and small businesses on this silly app, they/we need ya out here!
