http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShhDollWorks I started Shh Doll Works after a 30 year career in the legal field.

Sewing was something I enjoyed early on and with the arrival of grandchildren found a passion for making fashion doll clothes. I have a focus on detail and the finish of the fashions I make. All fashions are made from new material and in a smoke-free environment. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the fashions posted as much as I have had making them. The USA 50% tariffs (plus 10% handling fee on said tariff) are most definitely impacting my sales. My small business will suffer, but I am fortunate in that I don't depend on those sales to pay my bills -- other than fabric bills. So this is a good time to pause the fabric purchases and use up the fabric I've accumulated over the years. However, I could not resist, and just recently purchased this polka dot fabric. So my resolve is, unfortunately, blown out of the water.

I called this set, which was made mostly with that newly purchased fabric, "Confetti". It includes the dress, hat, purse and crinoline.

This is my latest suit, made from cotton blend. The majority of my customers are in the USA. As my fashions now attract the 50% tariff to the USA, I have had to include the tariff in my US mailing fees. The tariff alone for this set is a whopping $90 CDN ($65.34USD), plus Etsy takes their 12% on the tariff (???). So I fully expect my sales to plummet. But I do very much like making these little fashions and expect to continue despite the current situation.

The silk cocktail dress, this time in sapphire blue. With the possibility of 50% tariffs looming it is unlikely that my many USA customers will wish to pay that much more for my fashions. I may have to retire, or perhaps make some fashions for MY dolls. Poor things, many of them are sitting around nood.

After 2 1/2 years I've returned to this style. Over the years that I've been sewing for collectible dolls I have made this dress at least 6 times, each time in a different colour of dupioni silk. The cropped tulle jacket is actually easier to make than it looks, but it does cause me some stress nevertheless. I called this one "Cranberry Ice".

Another set featuring a vest. This orange brocade fabric proved difficult to photograph. In my initial pictures, the sheen from the brocade made the orange fabric look to be a definite gold colour! I finally had to play around with Photoshop to try to to get the closest orange shade for the fabric. The very detailed blouse is made from semi sheer silk-blend fabric. It was by far the most difficult part of making this set! I called this set "In for the Vest"

I decided to do a few basic fashions: namely, a cotton skirt, t-shirt and tote - so a bit easier with more immediate results. I called these three sets "Market Day No. 1, 2, and 3". The waistbands were the hardest part of the actual fashion due to navigating the whole "bulk issue". The totes were fun as I had to go through my ever-growing fabrics' stash to pick which fabrics would coordinate best with each set. I was most pleased with the fabric for the tote with the jean skirt - I bought that Japanese cotton a few years ago and had since forgotten it. I think it's perfect with that particular set!

It was time I did a pantsuit. I opted for wide-legged trousers with vest in a pale pinkish-tan colour in a light wool blend. I had trouble picking a colour for the blouse, and finally settled on navy blue. The blouse gave me some trouble, this time it was the inset sleeve. The first sleeve went in easily, but for some reason I had trouble sewing in the other sleeve. Thank gawd for my seam ripper as it was put to repeated use! The purse is made with Ultra Suede - a perfect fabric for a purse at this scale!

I very much enjoyed shirring the previous yellow dress, so of course, I did it again. This gingham fabric has a soft lustre that doesn't translate in the photos. Still, this dress does exclaim SPRING!

"Island Holiday" sundress, hat and tote. I used a shirring technique to make the bodice of this little, and otherwise simple sundress. Shirring is a gathering method of sewing multiple rows of parallel stitching using elastic thread in the sewing machine bobbin, with regular thread through the machine's needle. It creates a very stretchy fabric. It took me a few tries to get this right (and some math). Despite the "fits and starts" to get what I wanted, I had a lot of fun making this fashion. Alas, the bottle of Champagne was not included with the sale šŸ„‚
