About the quilt: As my mom struggled with late-stage dementia, I struggled with slowly saying good-bye as she faded away.
One thing that brought me comfort was keeping a list of her sayings. I used to think these phrases were silly, just Mom being Mom, but they suddenly held so much meaning.
She died last November and those sayings have been swirling around in my head ever since. Recently, one in particular has resonated with me at a soul level.
Whenever I feel overwhelmed with the uncertainty of life, I can hear my mom calmly say: “One step at a time.”
And so I created it as a quilted sign — a visual reminder to slow down, take a breath and trust the journey.
