Mid 1970s Kyrgyzstan chess pieces. ‘Tang Kalyshhtu!’ Last two pics are courtesy of Alex Chelnokov. I’m in the process of writing a third - and I believe final - chessay on these ‘terrific!’ (see above) chess pieces. But who knows?!?

Really, finial hole driller? Not a dart player, I’m guessing… :))

Our first set destined to Switzerland. Switzerland!! Always super exciting to tick off another spot on the planet where our artistically restored Chess Schach sets have found new homes. I’ve never thought to tally up how many different countries our collectors reside in, but here they are - we now stand at 18 and counting!

Canada, England, New Zealand, India, Scotland, Slovakia, U.S.A., Brazil, Holland, Australia, Italy, Mauritius, Romania, France, Ireland, Germany, Austria and SWITZERLAND!

Thank you kindly to all the discerning collectors who reside in these wonderful countries and continually support and encourage my artsy tinkerings.

The Khan’s Army, copper signature, 2022.

Subtly antiquing these ivory pads. A splash of walnut danish oil in some turps and Bob’s your uncle. The board is the trick. This is a smooth as ice. It’s as old as the Chess Schach…and the aged feel just feels right, right!?

TIP a the day to ya:
If you’re mixing your own shellac flakes use a broad based plastic container. The skinny laying down took 4 weeks to turn, while the correct container took around three days. Good job I’m a patient man! ;)

There has already been some interest in this sexy Soviet GM1 set. I’m sitting on the fence whether to add weight or not. I kind of like the feel of the pieces as is, but let me know if you’d prefer some welly and I’ll have at it. Sometimes you just have to trust me though…

Some sneaky snaps of a set that came my way recently via the most gentlemanly of collectors, Chuck Grau. I must admit, I was slightly scared of removing that hideous, day-glow yellow paint, as you just never know what you’re gonna find under the hood, so to speak!

Actually, there WERE some eyebrow-raisers along the way, but with a generous slice of Chess Schach TLC, I believe they’ve been transformed into quite an attractive, artistically restored Smyslov set.

We have been delaying adding new listings to the gallery this year due to the ridiculous uncertainty over tariffs added to cross-border trade between Canada and the U.S. I am assured, however, that these tariffs will not apply to our one-of-a-kind, artistically restored chess sets. Thank Caissa!
If you would like to recieve a NEW LISTING ALERT a full 24 hours before the set goes on sale to the general public just email the words I’M IN within the subject box to [email protected] and we’ll add you to our growing list of discerning collectors. The ALERT is all you’ll receive. No annoying junk. We are not like THEM…
