With competition season well under way, here’s a familiar scene that will be missing for most 😢

The team march into the gymnasium at the start of a tournament is a ceremony that tells you it’s about to get real!

You’ve spent months practicing, training, & working on your skills to be tournament ready. Once the athletes are all in the gym, it’s on. Time to show up and compete.

Sadly, with many tournaments being held virtually as the world continues to try to get the virus under control, this is one ceremony that many athletes won’t be a part of this year.

Practice makes ________? ⁠⁠

If you said perfect, you’d be wrong. There’s no such thing as perfection, so stop trying to achieve it. ⁠⁠

The idea of “perfect’ only exists in our minds, and is only based on what we know in this moment. The perfect ideal is always changing, always evolving. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
What you might think perfect is today could be something completely different a year from now. In fact, it could be completely different a week from now, so why chase it?⁠⁠
⁠⁠
You know what practice does make? It makes you BETTER. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
BETTER should be the goal. Better than yesterday. Better than last week. Better than last year.⁠⁠
⁠⁠
When you strive to be better, you make incremental improvements. With each practice, you get a bit better. With each rep, you realize a small increase in speed or strength or endurance or whatever it is you’re trying to be better at.⁠⁠

All these small gains add up exponentially over time. Today you’re practicing a new skill for the first time. A month from now you’re doing it cleanly. Someday you’ll be standing on a podium with a medal around your neck. ⁠⁠
