Racism. What an ink blot on the pages of history. An attempt to make black society seem worthless. An attack on your pride, confidence and spirituality. An attack on our future wealth.
I didn't discover racism until I came to Canada in 1968. My new classmates called me ni**er on a regular basis until I discovered its meaning. Then I realized that the whole damn continent was against us.
Martin Luther King was assasinated within 3 short months of my arrival in Canada. Those 3 months was the awakening that gave birth to the Warrior in me. They were trying to destroy our relevance in this society. To disadvantage us in the worst ways possible, at every turn, every moment, every hour of every day.
Brother James Brown said it best. He said "say it loud" and my people rejoiced, "I'm black and I'm proud". The 10 greatest words in my musical history.
Black history month...What other race of people do you know that has their own history month?
It was a necessity! A force field in si-fi terms...
When we learn our history we realize just how great and compassionate of a people we are. We see the immense impact of our contributions to mankind in every facet of culture: arts, science, astronomy, architecture, medicine, engineering, education, compassion...and the accolades contiue.
We have lifted ourselves up and we thank those compassionate few for your support.
Complacency is a quality we should never embrace as a people.
