Haft-Seen or the seven 'S's is a traditional table setting for Nowruz, the traditional Iranian Spring Celebration. The haft seen table includes seven items all starting with the letter seen (Ψ³) in the Farsi alphabet.
The Haft Seen items are:
1. Sabzeh- Wheat, barley, mung bean or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolizing Rebirth
2. Samanu- Sweet pudding made from wheat germ symbolisind affluence
3. Senjed- Dried oleaster fruit, symbolizing Love
4. Sir- Garlic, Symbolizing medicine
5. Sib- Apples, symbolizing Beauty & Health
6. Somāq- Sumac fruit, symbolizing (the color of) Sunrise
7. Serkeh- Vinegar, symbolizing Patience & Old age
The items that don’t start with seen are:
1. Painted Eggs- Symbolizing Humans and Fertility
2. Fish- Symbolizing Animals
3. Mirror-Symbolizing Sky
4. Candles- Symbolizing Fire
5. Golab- Symbolizing Water
