URANUS FACTS

Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. While being visible to the naked eye, it was not recognized as a planet due to its dimness and slow orbit. Uranus became the first planet discovered with the use of a telescope. Uranus is tipped over on its side with an axial tilt of 98 degrees. It is often described as “rolling around the Sun on its side.”

Facts About Uranus

Uranus was officially discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1781.
It is too dim to have been seen by the ancients. At first Herschel thought it was a comet, but several years later it was confirmed as a planet. Herscal tried to have his discovery named “Georgian Sidus” after King George III. The name Uranus was suggested by astronomer Johann Bode. The name comes from the ancient Greek deity Ouranos.
Uranus turns on its axis once every 17 hours, 14 minutes.
The planet rotates in a retrograde direction, opposite to the way Earth and most other planets turn.
Uranus makes one trip around the Sun every 84 Earth years.
During some parts of its orbit one or the other of its poles point directly at the Sun and get about 42 years of direct sunlight. The rest of the time they are in darkness.
Uranus is often referred to as an “ice giant” planet.
Like the other gas giants, it has a hydrogen upper layer, which has helium mixed in. Below that is an icy “mantle, which surrounds a rock and ice core. The upper atmosphere is made of water, ammonia and the methane ice crystals that give the planet its pale blue colour.
Uranus hits the coldest temperatures of any planet.
With minimum atmospheric temperature of -224°C Uranus is nearly coldest planet in the solar system. While Neptune doesn’t get as cold as Uranus it is on average colder. The upper atmosphere of Uranus is covered by a methane haze which hides the storms that take place in the cloud decks.
Uranus has two sets of very thin dark coloured rings.
The ring particles are small, ranging from a dust-sized particles to small boulders. There are eleven inner rings and two outer rings. They probably formed when one or more of Uranus’s moons were broken up in an impact. The first rings were discovered in 1977 with the two outer rings being discovered in Hubble Space Telescope images between 2003 and 2005.
Uranus’ moons are named after characters created by William Shakespeare and Alexander Pope.
These include Oberon, Titania and Miranda. All are frozen worlds with dark surfaces. Some are ice and rock mixtures. The most interesting Uranian moon is Miranda; it has ice canyons, terraces, and other strange-looking surface areas.
Only one spacecraft has flown by Uranus.
In 1986, the Voyager 2 spacecraft swept past the planet at a distance of 81,500 km. It returned the first close-up images of the planet, its moons, and rings.

9 Simple Tips To Increase Height Naturally

Height is an essential factor that determines the overall personality of an individual. Though being short does not in any way undermine an individual’s capabilities, it’s a fact that tall people often become the center of attention. Some short statured people not only suffer from a lack of confidence but also face certain difficulties in some aspects of their lives.

So, is increasing one’s height naturally really possible? If yes, how? That is what we are going to see in this post. Keep reading!

How Can You Increase Height Naturally

Get Proper Sleep
Indulge In Regular Exercise And Sports
Practise Yoga
Maintain Correct Posture
Have A Balanced Diet
Avoid Growth Stunting Factors
Develop A Strong Immune System
Ask For Medical Aid
Build Your Confidence
About 20 percent or more of our body height depends upon our environment, activities, and diet. Thus, we can increase our height in a natural way by following certain basic rules in our daily lives.

1. Get Proper Sleep

It’s a well-known fact that our body grows and regenerates tissues while we rest. Proper sleep and rest are absolutely essential for a growing body. It’s believed that the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) is produced naturally in our bodies during sound, deep, and slow wave sleep. Growing children and teenagers should have at least eight to 11 hours of proper sleep every night in order to reach their maximum height. It is extremely important to ensure that you have a proper sleeping environment. It should be serene, and must not have disturbing noises or strong lights. Here are some tips to ensure you get good sleep:

Taking a warm water bath before going to bed can greatly enhance the quality of sleep (1). According to the study, a sudden dip in the core body temperature can induce sleep and lethargy.
You can drink one cup of chamomile tea before hitting the bed. This is really useful to induce sleep (2).
2. Indulge In Regular Exercise And Sports

One of the best ways to increase height naturally is by being physically fit and active as a child. Regular exercise and sports enhance one’s height. When you are physically active, your body demands more healthy nutrients and consequently, an increase in nutrient intake results in growth.
Indulging in sports like swimming, aerobics, tennis, cricket, football, basketball or a number of other stretching activities are a good way to keep our body growing. According to a Spanish study, there is a direct relation between physical activity and bone development during growth (3). Our muscles play a major role in our growth. Hence, regular exercise or sports should definitely form a part of our daily activities.
Activities like swimming (that include the entire body) can also contribute to one’s height. If started at an early age, swimming can ensure one has good growth.
The breaststroke is especially recommended for those who wish to increase their height. Swimming, as already discussed, is a full body, intense exercise – something that will help to lengthen your muscles and build muscle strength.
You can also try performing different kinds of stretches to begin with. These can include the car stretch, super stretch, cobra stretch, the bridge, bow down, twists, the table, and basic leg stretches. You can perform simple stretching exercises for a minimum of 15 minutes every day. Stretches can also be a great warm-up activity before you begin your workout session.
Hanging exercises can also help you improve your growth. These might be a little difficult to perform at first, but as time progresses, you will get better at them. All you need is a horizontal bar. Simply hang from the bar with your arms and spine stretched for about 15 seconds. You can continue doing this for two to five minutes every day.

3. Practice Yoga

Yoga is a great and comparatively less strenuous way to increase your height naturally. Yoga improves the overall fitness of your body, which is useful to give a boost to the rate at which you grow.

Certain yoga poses facilitate the release of growth-inducing hormones in the body. The stretching and balancing exercises involved in yoga strengthen the muscles and improve the posture of the body as well. Try yoga poses such as the Triangle pose (Trikonasana), Cobra pose (Bhujangaasana), Mountain pose (Tadasana), Pleasant pose (Sukhasana), and the Tree pose (Vriksasana). You can also add Surya Namaskar to your fitness regimetoo.

4. Maintain Correct Posture

Right from childhood, emphasis must be laid on the maintenance of the right posture. A few simple ways to improving one’s posture include the following practices – sitting straight on a chair, keeping your shoulders straight and chin high, keeping your hips over your feet while walking or standing can, etc. Also, remember not to hunch while walking.

A straight spine and a strong back can help increase your height. Align your neck and head without bending or slouching. Having a good pillow and a body-friendly mattress are important in keeping your spine straight.

It should be noted that your shoulders should not stoop while walking or standing. Hunching should be avoided by all means. A good posture makes you look tall, smart, and confident.

5. Have A Balanced Diet

A balanced diet is absolutely essential to get proper nutrition. Stay away from junk food at any cost. Avoid saturated fats, carbonated drinks, and excessive sugar-loaded foods, as these can cause a negative impact on your overall growth pattern. Ensure you get all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs in order to have a healthy growth. There are many other foods that can help you maintain a balanced diet.

Vitamin D and proteins help in triggering the growth hormones, and are required for the proper growth of teeth and bones (4). Hence, the foods that are rich in these nutrients such as cheese, legumes, tofu, lean meat, and egg white should be included in your diet.
The proper intake of zinc is also very important, as its deficiency can lead to stunted growth in children (5). Foods such as asparagus, chocolate, eggs, oysters, and peanuts are rich in zinc.
Calcium found in dairy products and green vegetables is required for the growth and development of bones (6).
Other nutrients like magnesium, phosphorus, carbohydrates, and vitamins should not be ignored as they also contribute towards the proper growth of the body. The nutritional requirements can also be fulfilled by taking supplements in limited quantities.
It is important to have a good metabolism. Hence, you can have six balanced meals throughout the day. Smaller but well-spanned portions can be helpful to boost your metabolic rate. This will lead to lesser fat storage in your body, thus allowing you to grow taller.
6. Avoid Growth Stunting Factors

You can ensure that your height doesn’t get affected by external or internal factors. Hence, keep in mind a few things:

Taking drugs and alcohol at a young age can be extremely harmful (7). Consuming these can lead to stunted growth and malnutrition, thus preventing you from reaching your maximum height. The intake of caffeine should be restricted, particularly among children, as it can impair the ability to fall asleep (8). As kids and adolescents require a good eight to 11 hours of sound sleep, caffeine can restrict that to a great extent, thus indirectly contributing to short stature.

Apart from this, steroids have also been found to inhibit bone growth in young children, adversely affecting their height. Research has shown that asthma-affected children and teenagers who use inhalers tend to grow up to about half an inch shorter than others. This is because these inhalers dispense relatively small amounts of the steroid called budesonide.

7. Develop A Strong Immune System

Certain childhood illnesses can also cause stunted growth. These can be avoided by regular immunization and intake of plenty of Vitamin C (which is found in citrus fruits like orange, grapefruit and lemon). There are a number of ways you can strengthen your immune system – by eating whole and fresh foods, and avoiding processed and hydrogenated foods such as the very popular margarine.

A healthy diet will lead to a healthy immune system. Incorporate lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids in your diet to maintain a healthy immune system (10).

8. Ask For Medical Aid

If you have reached your mid-teens and hail from a family where all members are tall, but find yourself to be still short, then it could be time to visit a doctor. Certain medical conditions can be detected at an early stage. Hence, if you are doing everything required, but still aren’t seeing considerable growth, seek medical advice.

9. Build Your Confidence

If a person is tall but lacks confidence, it’s of no use. Hence, it is very important to build confidence from childhood and cultivate it as you grow older. You can take part in school activities, or join a club and spend time pursuing your interests and hobbies. All of these act towards boosting your mood and give you a sense of well-being, thus affecting your confidence levels. If you have a positive mindset and are brimming with confidence, even a shorter stature won’t seem to be a hindrance for you. Hence, build your confidence!

Now that you know what you need to do to increase your height, you must also know something equally important – the factors that can affect your height.

Factors Affecting Height

Being tall isn’t in our control, is it? Well, even if it is, it is only partly true!

Genetic and non-genetic factors have a major role in determining our height. Our height is regulated by the “Human Growth Hormone (HGH)”. HGH is secreted in our body by the pituitary gland, and is required for the proper growth of bones and cartilages.

a. Genetic Factors

Our height is determined by several genes. If both your parents are short, it does not mean you won’t be tall. However, if most of the members of your family from both sides are of short stature, then the next generations are most likely to be short. Genetic factors are entirely beyond our control. It has been found that about 60 to 80 percent of the difference in height is directly linked to genetic factors (11).

You can calculate your projected height. Here’s how –

Add the values of both your parents’ height, either counting in inches or centimeters.
If you are a male, add 5 inches, that is, 13 cm to the resultant value. However, if you are a female, deduct 5 inches from this value.
Divide this number by 2.
What you get is your estimated height. This can be plus or minus 4 inches. This is a way to predict what your approximate height will be.
b. Non-Genetic Factors

There are several non-genetic factors that influence your height to an extent. Being tall is associated with growth, and hence, being short can be attributed to inadequate nutrition, lack of physical activity, incorrect posture, etc.

Certain other non-genetic factors that may affect your height include:

Inadequate prenatal or postnatal care
Ill health during childhood and adolescence
Mental conditions during childhood and adolescence
Non-genetic factors can be controlled to an extent by following a healthy lifestyle from childhood.

Don’t wait any longer. Start right away and you might as well see yourself become taller! Also, tell us how this post has helped you. Do comment in the box below.

8 Keys to a Successful Marriage

The first time that I saw Cynthia, she was standing in the cafeteria line at Columbia Bible College (now known as Columbia International University). Until I arrived on campus in the fall of 1973, she was the only African American attending the college.

She told me that she was excited to have someone of color there to talk to … to understand some of the challenges she was going through. And I was sure happy to see her! She had a certain glow about her—a sense of warmth and joy that made me want to know her.

It didn’t take long for Cynthia and me to discover that we had a lot in common, even though I was from Alabama and she was from Pennsylvania. We were both from moderate-income families and our parents had never been divorced. And we were both followers of Jesus Christ.

Neither Cynthia nor I began college with any intentions of marriage. We both went there for an education. But we enjoyed being together and had a lot in common. Before we graduated, I asked Cynthia to be my wife.

Looking back, it was easy for us to fall in love. But staying in love, well … that takes hard work.

Now married for almost four decades, some have asked us, “What’s the secret to your marriage’s success?” Like all couples, Cynthia and I have had many ups and downs. If we were not Christians, there were times that I’m not sure we would have made it.

Over the years, we’ve discovered some principles for a successful marriage. Here are eight of them, in no particular order:

1. Don’t put your marriage on a pedestal. Every marriage struggles with shortcomings. In the early years of our marriage, I thought that we were supposed to be an almost perfect model for others. But I quickly learned that people don’t need to see a flawless marriage. They need to see a couple asking for God’s help as they deal with their shortcomings and weaknesses.

When God brings two sinful people together, it’s war. But God is the God of the supernatural, and He gives us the wisdom and strength to make a relationship work.

Our children don’t see me as perfect dad or Cynthia and me as the perfect couple. They need to see us dealing with our imperfections so they will know how to deal with their own imperfections.

2. Do for your spouse what you want him or her to do for you. Consider the consequences of your words and actions. Ask yourself how you would want to be spoken to, or treated, or cared for. And then do those things.

The Bible paraphrase, The Message, says in Luke 6:37-38, “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.”

3. Recognize your differences and be willing to defer to one another. Your spouse is not just like you. Learn to live with your differences.

When I was growing up, we didn’t have family meals, but Cynthia’s family did. Every night they ate together around the table. In my home it was every person for himself.

Today I really don’t care if we eat together as a family. But it’s important to Cynthia, so I defer to her. You see, there’s a lot of give and take in a healthy marriage.

So instead of dwelling on how different you are from your spouse, think about the things you have in common. And be willing to give up your preferences for one another.

4. Remember that deep friendship is a key to true intimacy. These days, you see a lot of s*x in the media, as though it’s the glue to a lasting marriage. But s*x is not the key to an enduring bond between a husband and wife. You have to become friends first.

And what do friends do? They spend time together doing things they both enjoy. When you see Cynthia or me, you usually see the other. And at the end of the day, we try to look at each other and remember, You are my friend.

5. Love unconditionally, the way God loves you. The only way that you can unreservedly love your spouse is by putting Jesus Christ at the center of your relationship. He can help you care for your spouse without expecting anything in return (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).

I like to compare God’s agape love in marriage to flying an airplane. The reason the plane overcomes gravity is because it’s built according to the laws of aerodynamics (the way air moves around things). What happens if the plane loses power? The natural law of gravity will take over and the plane will begin to fall.

Likewise, in marriage, the moment you stop relying on God to help your marriage is the moment the natural law of selfishness takes over. The result? Division … and too often, divorce.

6. Don’t think that you are above sin. You are a sinner, just like every human being. But be encouraged. Jesus was tempted just like you and me. He wants to help us escape temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Cynthia and I have faced challenges—we are selfish like anyone else. We often have to humble ourselves and ask each other for forgiveness.

But I don’t focus on the struggles, the weaknesses, or even the strengths in my marriage. Instead, I try to park on the sufficiency of God’s grace.

7. Love each other without demands. When couples bring rules into a marriage—”This is your responsibility, not mine,” or “I’ve done my part, now you do yours”—that usually reflects a loss of intimacy. Dr. Howard Hendricks, who was a beloved professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, said the more intimate the relationship, the fewer the rules that are necessary to regulate the relationship.

True love is not demanding. It does not keep score or consider who does more work. In the Gant household, when either of us sees something that needs to be done, we do it.

I fill the dishwasher; Cynthia fills the dishwasher. We cook meals together. Cynthia does sewing and makes our window treatments, and I hang them. We do yardwork together (Cynthia likes to mow and I like to trim), and we shop together. We have an unusual commonality.

8. Do not get into debt. Cynthia and I have chosen to have a simple lifestyle, and that philosophy has transferred to our children. They haven’t seen us constantly battling over things that are here today and gone tomorrow.

Part of our commitment has been to live without debt. We have no credit card debt. No car debt. One car is 16 years old, another is 10 years old, and they get us where we need to go.

We just made choices to live with less and are glad we did. It makes for a more peaceful life.

The secret to our success
After almost four decades of marriage, I can say from experience that Jesus Christ can bring true unity into any relationship. Cynthia and I attribute the success of our marriage to that.

And we believe that, with Christ’s help, our marriage will be even better tomorrow … and then the day after that.

For those businesses and business leaders doing it right, research points to four key ways in which they work to build trust within their organizations and with whom they do business: reliability, openness/honesty, competence and compassion — or what we call the ROCC of Trust. For the entrepreneurs we’ve studied for decades, the ROCC of Trust has been critical to their success. Here’s how.

1. Reliability

Reliability is doing what you said you’d do when you said you were going to do it. It helped Dennis Quaintance and Mike Weaver build the first Platinum LEED-certified hotel in the U.S., along with other award-winning restaurants and the famous O’Henry hotel.

Reliability transcends national boundaries. As Jackie Tso, cofounder of social e-commerce enterprise LinkMeGlobal, says, “By understanding that there are cultural differences between the U.S. and the developing countries, trust across our extended team of artisans needed to be developed over time by delivering on our commitments.”

2. Competence

Competence, or consistently delivering superior results, is how radical intrapreneur and GM plant manager Bob Lintz transformed a failing $250 million stamping plant in Cleveland, Ohio, into a billion-dollar organization that’s consistently been one of the world’s best companies for more than a decade.

Competence is key for Maximilian Huc, co-founder of the job search platform GoJobio.com: “I try to find individuals who embody the same drive as me to not just turn a profit, but to first and foremost make a difference in the process.”

3. Openness

Being transparent in communications is how Janice Dru of business technologies, services and solutions provider Inkwhy does business. She writes that she builds trust within her team by “having open conversations and candid discussions.”

GoJobio’s Huc says, “I take it upon myself to keep everyone abreast to what everyone else is doing, by creating a very transparent environment, the truth is right before everyone’s eyes.”

4. Compassion

Looking out for the best interests of others is how Two Men and a Truck, International operates. The company’s Grandma Rule, or treating everyone as you would want your grandma to be treated, helped turn a $350 investment in a used truck into a $400 million-plus-a-year enterprise, the largest local moving company in the U.S. Great teamwork and the innovation it fosters is at the core of Austin Holliman, cofounder of student engagement and education hub Commit Youth. “Our team is built on an enduring friendship and concern for each other’s personal welfare first and foremost.”

Successful entrepreneurs incorporate the ROCC of Trust from the very beginning as they build their founding teams, recruit additional talent and evaluate strategic partners. Trust provides the foundation for navigating complex environments, collaboration that is critical to innovation and lasting success.

NEPTUNE FACTS

Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun making it the most distant in the solar system. This gas giant planet may have formed much closer to the Sun in early solar system history before migrating to its present position.

Neptune Planet Profile

Equatorial Diameter: 49,528 km
Polar Diameter: 48,682 km
Mass: 1.02 × 10^26 kg (17 Earths)
Moons: 14 (Triton)
Rings: 5
Orbit Distance: 4,498,396,441 km (30.10 AU)
Orbit Period: 60,190 days (164.8 years)
Effective Temperature: -214 °C
Discovery Date: September 23rd 1846
Discovered By: Urbain Le Verrier & Johann Galle
Facts About Neptune

Neptune was not known to the ancients.
It is not visible to the naked eye and was first observed in 1846. Its position was determined using mathematical predictions. It was named after the Roman god of the sea.
Neptune spins on its axis very rapidly.
Its equatorial clouds take 18 hours to make one rotation. This is because Neptune is not solid body.
Neptune is the smallest of the ice giants.
Despite being smaller than Uranus, Neptune has a greater mass. Below its heavy atmosphere, Uranus is made of layers of hydrogen, helium, and methane gases. They enclose a layer of water, ammonia and methane ice. The inner core of the planet is made of rock.
The atmosphere of Neptune is made of hydrogen and helium, with some methane.
The methane absorbs red light, which makes the planet appear a lovely blue. High, thin clouds drift in the upper atmosphere.
Neptune has a very active climate.
Large storms whirl through its upper atmosphere, and high-speed winds track around the planet at up 600 meters per second. One of the largest storms ever seen was recorded in 1989. It was called the Great Dark Spot. It lasted about five years.
Neptune has a very thin collection of rings.
They are likely made up of ice particles mixed with dust grains and possibly coated with a carbon-based substance.
Neptune has 14 moons.
The most interesting moon is Triton, a frozen world that is spewing nitrogen ice and dust particles out from below its surface. It was likely captured by the gravitational pull of Neptune. It is probably the coldest world in the solar system.
Only one spacecraft has flown by Neptune.
In 1989, the Voyager 2 spacecraft swept past the planet. It returned the first close-up images of the Neptune system. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has also studied this planet, as have a number of ground-based telescopes.
Neptune’s Great Dark Spot

The Great Dark Spot in the southern atmosphere of Neptune was first discovered in 1989 by the Voyager 2 spacecraft. It was an incredibly large rotating storm system with winds of upto 1,500 miles per hour, the strongest winds recorded on any planet. How such powerful winds were discovered on a planet so far from the sun is still considered a mystery to this day.

Data from the Voyager 2 spacecraft also showed that the Great Dark Spot varied significantly in size during their brief pass of the planet. When Neptune was viewed by the Hubble Space telescope in 1994 the Great Dark Spot had vanished, although a different dark spot had appeared in Neptune’s northern hemisphere.

Neptune’s Atmosphere

Neptune has an incredibly thick atmosphere comprised of 74% hydrogen, 25% helium and approximately 1% methane. Its atmosphere also contains icy clouds and the fastest winds recorded in the solar system. Particles of icy methane and minor gases in the extremities of the atmosphere give Neptune its deep blue colour. The striking blue and white features of Neptune also help to distinguish it from Uranus.

Neptune’s atmosphere is subdivided into the lower troposphere and the stratosphere with the tropopause being the boundary between the two. In the lower troposphere temperatures decrease with altitude however they increase with altitude in the stratosphere. Hydrocarbons form hazes of smog that appear in the entire upper atmosphere of Neptune and hydrocarbon snowflakes that form in Neptune’s atmosphere melt before they reach its surface due to the high pressure.
