This is 20yo me at one of my favorite places in the world - HBH in Lithuania (is it still there, I wonder?)
Found this photograph as I was prepping for my presentation on "Making, Mending & Mysticism" I gave at church last Saturday. It went well, but I'm glad it's over! 😅 Public speaking is not my favorite.

Just a post to say, 👋 I'm still here! I posted a check-in chat on my stories/highlights about what I've been up to since I went dark here on IG at the end of 2025. The reality is: I don't have capacity these days to be marketing/creating content when I'm also studying, making stuff, parenting and all that jazz. 🤷‍♀️

Story Check-in TLDR: doing my masters in Spiritual care. Prepping for a *few* markets. Wrestling with being a dependent on my partner while doing my unpaid work.

Q: How do you "be" in today's capitalist society, giving your gifts and skills when you're not supported financially?

This is my one + only Christmas Market this year.

But remember, you can always pop in for a studio shop if you're looking for a unique, slow, handmade, item or a gift certificate for Spiritual Direction 😉

DYK, I just got accepted into a Masters Program at this University? Starting in January. I'm definitely feeling the feels! Will my perimenopauseal brain serve me as well as my 20yr old University brain did? Only time will tell.

Feeling Belligerent!

It's, so-called "Black-Friday" today...

How I am belligerently celebrating the day:
- reading a book from the library
- listening to records I found at the thrift
- deliberately noticing+enjoying all the things I have that were *not* bought on black Friday, or in big box stores.

This post is not about shaming anyone for how they prepare to celebrate Christmas. I am by no means a purist when it comes to buying things. I've only just recently cancelled my Amazon Prime account & I do "have" to go to the mall sometimes to find things on my teenage sons' Christmas & 'normal life requirements' lists. Shoes, in particular, require this unfortunate action. It's not like I loathe the mall either. I don't mind being there. Especially when it's *not* a week before Christmas when the sense of panic becomes palpable.

My belligerence stems from
-the Perceived sense of Obligation to buy/give new gifts
-The Overconsumption + greed
-The need-for & sense-of-entitlement-to a so-called "deal"
-The *Un*-Conscious spending
-The capitalism that fills big box stores with poor quality junk that will not make anyone happy for more than the moment in time they get the dopamine hit of receiving a* gift, & will promptly be relocated to the dump or the thrift store.

*Dopamine hits for receiving gifts is real, to be sure. Guess what I've discovered! It's the same feeling if you give things that aren't new.

The *System* has created this vortex whereby we 'don't have time' & are 'too tired ' to put in the work that's required for an alternative way of gift giving:
- really getting to know someone enough that you can get them what you know they really would appreciate. (Listening to the things they say, watching what they enjoy... It requires being wealthy in the currency of attention)
- spending the time seeking out good gifts NOT-on-Amazon or at big box stores. It takes more time, more energy, more creativity, yes. I'd like to suggest that that's part of the gift: The attention you've invested into finding something that is off the beaten path.

We need to rethink, + resist, the man-made System that robs us of a good life. Let's keep working at it togeth

This Saturday, First Advent 🕯️ Weekend,
I'll be at this cozy event. It's my one Christmas market of the year (but of course my studio is always open for in person shopping 🛍️ ☺️)

CMU is located at the corner of Grant and Shaftesbury Blvd. The Market will be set up in Marpeck Commons, just up the stairs from Folio Cafe and the Library.

Christmas at CMU also offers live music concerts and treats, as I understand.

Moments of gladness over the weekend + into Monday:
- a contented Monday afternoon selfie to remind myself of the joy of filling orders + the satisfaction of good work. ☺️
- me + 2 of my boys. We enjoyed the beautiful outdoors at Hecla, 2 hours north of Winnipeg, over the weekend. (Pics 2-5)
- last slide: took the forest route home from the post office to breathe in the autumn 🍂 air and crunch the leaves under my feet.

A BIG Thank to everyone who ordered items online! There's something so delightful about a basket full of packages to walk to the post office on a sunny late Autumn afternoon. 🧡 🍁 🍂

What moments of gladness have you encountered in the last few days?

Happy customers and delighted reviews 🧡

It's yet another year of challenging holiday online orders for small businesses, this time due to the US tariffs. 😒

At this time of year I would normally be mailing out multiple packages a day to the USA, providing me with the motivation I need to take a walk to the post office and stretch my legs.

This year? Crickets 🦗
(ie. It's so quiet!) Alas!

I *did* manage to sort out the Zonos app, however, which makes it possible for me to pay the tariffs before a package is sent, thereby ensuring the buyer does not have to pay the fee upon receiving their item (they pay the tariff fees when they made their order, which I then use to pay on the Zonos app). This made it possible to ship a bike to a returning customer who reached out and asked if I would open my shop to US clients. 🥰

I'm waiting with cautious optimism to hear that the package arrived safely and without issue. 🤞

The Zonos app is pretty straightforward. I managed to figure out how to pay the tariffs and get documentation without too much effort. 💪

The Fervent Folk Etsy shop *is* open to American buyers again now that I have added the tariff fees to the listing price. I'm not expecting a lot of orders though, sadly.

Sometimes I'll be admiring someone's earwear & am startled to realize they're wearing *my* earrings! 🥰

Saw these "pebble" earrings 'in the wild' this last weekend & thought, "Dang! those are just so nice!"

It's no surprise they are a customer favorite. 🤍

Hand crafted with Job's Tears seeds and a silvery bead hand cast from smelted scrap aluminum. Elegant & Enviro-chic. 👌

Curious.
Recently I've been curious about the festival of Samhain (SAH win). I've read about it in books & seen posts about it, but knew only that it occurred the same time as Halloween.

I grew up being taught that Halloween & the celebrations surrounding this time of year are evil. ...Because I don't like being told what to think, I set aside what cultural filters I could & did my own research.

(I became soured to the bias toward Christmas vs the inherent evil nature of Halloween especially after discovering that many of the cultural ways we celebrate Christmas are from pagan roots, repackaged as Christian
🎄 Christmas trees & the capitalism that accompanies gift-giving is sacred, but Halloween is evil because it focuses on death & darkness?
"Nah brah"
It's not that simple.)

Examining what we've been taught by our cultures, belief systems, & societies may be SCARY 👻 🎃

AND it may also be liberating.

Samhain celebrates the end of harvest & the start of winter. It's a time for embracing the natural cycles of death and rebirth. Samhain reminds us that darkness is not to be feared, but rather is a time for rest, introspection, and planting the seeds of new beginnings.

I think this is beautiful. Meaning making is important. Having special celebrations to do this with purpose has always been a part of human life.

I plan on celebrating the season with greater intent this year. While answering the door for trick-or-treaters I will also be practicing my own rituals of Samhain: Acknowledging what is dying or dead 🪾 💀 in my life, & recognizing the seeds of new beginnings 🌱

If you've nothing up Halloween night you are welcome to join me.✨
