I wish I could say enough “thank you” and enough “amen” to your prayers and encouragement. The love has been massive, and I do not take it for granted. I have come on here a few times asking you all to support different people going through difficult situations, but I never imagined this would become my own situation. Yet here we are, and it still feels very unreal to me.

But this community!! I don’t know how or when, but I wish I could hug you all. I’m still processing everything and honestly still out of it because I had just moved with a 15-foot truck, u haul and currently I have nothing. When I saw my place, all I could say was, “I have lost everything I built in this country from day one.” It was heartbreaking to see my life’s work soaked in water and covered in dirt.

11 years ago this month, I moved to Canada. Today, I’m starting over with nothing. ( Please read the post above as it’s more detailed)

After almost 10 years living with a dear friend, I finally moved into my own place on May 2. I was so excited for this new chapter more space, a full workspace for my Ogeajibe and endless possibilities ahead.

But on May 7, everything changed. A fire broke out in the apartment above mine. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, but the damage to my unit was devastating. The ceiling collapsed over my workspace, asbestos contamination made everything unsalvageable, and the rest of my apartment was destroyed by water damage.

I only spent 48 full hours in my new home. Now, I’m left with only the clothes I had with me when I went to work.
Because I was still unpacking and settling in, I made the heartbreaking mistake of not getting tenant insurance in time.

I’ve lost my sewing equipment, work electronics, inventory, furniture, clothes, and almost everything I own.
I’m grateful to be safe and thankful for the support I’ve received so far from the ESS, but the road ahead feels overwhelming.

I’m hoping to raise $10,000 to help replace my essentials and rebuild my life and business.
