🍁Trails of ‘Toba Favorite Fall Hikes🍂

Fen Trail, Duck Mountain Provincial Park

This one is short, sweet and slightly in Saskatchewan…
The Fen Trail takes you through an extremely rare ecosystem, a calcareous fen.

The trail is only a 500m boardwalk, but the area is LOADED with tamaracks (aka larches) which are turning golden for the fall season.

There are plenty of other great options both in the Saskatchewan and Manitoba Ducks to make the drive worth it for those not in the area.

Anyone else out chasing the tamaracks this fall? We have a few more good locations to share with you!

🍁Trails of ‘Toba Favorite Fall Hikes🍂

Bald Hill, Riding Mountain National Park

📍Treaty No. 2

The viewpoint at Bald Hill is arguably one of the most STUNNING fall views in Manitoba. There are two main routes to access Bald Hill, both being out and back.

My personal favorite is starting at the East Gate complex and heading up Reeves Ravine which takes you a total of ~13.8km with 375m of vert on mostly single track, with most of the climbing on the way to Bald Hill. When you hike back, there are also a number of stunning escarpment views to enjoy!

The North Escarpment Trail is another access that will take you down to Bald Hill roughly 14km total with 320m of vert that will mostly be encountered on the way back from Bald Hill. There are not as many views along the way but you do pass the iconic red chairs including a nice view of Bald Hill from above.

Is Bald Hill on your fall bucket list hikes?

Well, the seventh season of Manitoba adventures brought to you by 🦬Trails of ‘Toba🦬 has come to an end.

I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every person involved with our events, and the trail community in general. Volunteers, racers, land owners, sponsors…. we couldn’t do what we do without all of you!

I feel this short clip by Silas Hofer | Alberta Videographer/Photographer sums up beautifully why Trails of ‘Toba exists in the first place - to show people just how amazing Manitoba’s outdoor spaces truly are.

We hope to see you again soon!

Another year, another (now 7th) edition of Race the North Face. I say this every year, but I hope you felt a little bit of that MAGIC 🪄the Brandon Hills has to offer!

Nicole, Lola and I are SO FULL OF GRATITUDE for everyone that joined us yesterday. The volunteers (too many to name individually) were absolutely top-notch as usual, Brandon Regional Search and Rescue BRSARA did a stellar job taking care of runners during and after the race.

To the private land owners: The Grossarts Howpark Farms , Hargreaves, Mauthe’s and Beswithericks thank you so much for the opportunity to adventure on your land!

And to you the runners… for trusting us to put on an event worth your time to come take part in.

Today the three of us continued our little family tradition of going for a hike post RTNF, which is normally the season end and time to decompress. This year we hiked to the beautiful Devils Punchbowl with our friend Lauren!

I’d like to say now it’s time to unwind, after another season of events, but we have one more coming down the line with Falcon Trail Fest Sept. 26/27. So it’s back to the grinding stone!

Castle Rock a stunning 16km out and back from the north trailhead of Mantario Trail. Conditions were fabulous! Temps were great, bugs were minimal, and the skies were perfect. This one at sunset 🌅 would be 😍.

Perfect day for a hike!

Hemenway Lake if you want to add to the hike and make it an even 20km round trip! Took us around 5 hours for the full thing with plenty of doggy swims and some time eating snacks.

My ladies. Just the best little family.

🌊Berg Lake Trail🏔️

A few weeks back Nicole and I ✅ off another bucket-list adventure, completing the Berg Lake Trail in Mt. Robson Provincial Park.

After major flooding the trail had been close for a few years, reopening in 2025. The trail itself is 42km long with roughly 1200m of vertical gain, and the first 7km being bike accessible to Kinney Lake (we biked it to make the day a little easier) and the rest hike and run only.

The entire trail was beautiful, but what really stood out were the waterfalls:
📸1) Emperor Falls
2) Falls of the Pool
3) White Falls

Along with Berg Lake itself and the majestic Mount Robson, the highest peak in the 🇨🇦 Rockies at 3954 meters.

Our hopes was to camp, but alas we could not get sites (I tried booking opening day) and as is typical with our experience on backcountry trails, there were tons of open sites along the way.

Someday we will definitely be back to get the full camping experience, but the trail did not disappoint in the least.

Have you ever been to Berg Lake?

🔥While Kwasitchewan Falls🌊 trail is currently closed due to wildfires, there have been a few in the area extinguished already.

There does not appear to be any damage to the trail at this point, so here is to hoping we get a beautiful fall season to get in the backcountry.

In the meantime, enjoy this little video and the rushing waters over Kwasitchewan Falls and 🤞🏼 y’all can get out there some day soon. Trust me, it’s worth it!

🚙Icefield Parkway🧊

The Icefield Parkway (HWY 93) is arguably one of the most scenic roads in the WORLD. It extends 227km from Lake Louise in Banff to Jasper through the 🇨🇦 Canadian Rockies.

We toured from Jasper down to Peyto Lake and back this week on our annual family 🏕️ trip, stopping at a number of STUNNING and world renown locations along the way. All of these hikes are beginner friendly but there are still some hills to climb!

The first spot was Mistaya Canyon which clearly put a smile on Lola’s face! The glacier carved canyon is a sight to behold. The trail itself was 1.25km with 60m of vert.

Stop number two was Tangle Falls, located right along the highway, almost zero hiking involved but a very beautiful cascading waterfall.

Stop number 3 was the world famous Columbia Icefields, the largest ice field in the Canadian Rockies. We opted to drive and park near the glacier and do a 1.6km hike with 60m of elevation gain to get a closer view. There are plenty of tour options like the skywalk and bus tours onto the glacier.

Our last stop was the oh so beautiful Peyto Lake one of the most photographed places in the Canadian Rockies. The water truly is that vibrant due to glacial silt. The hike itself is on paved paths (accessible) to a viewing platform. I clocked 1.8km with 85m of vert on our trek.

This is a pretty magical way to spend a day if visiting the mountains. The views from the drive itself is worth the trip!

Have you toured the Icefield Parkway before? If so what was your favorite spot?
