👶🏽💛 *How to care for baby’s bottom and prevent diaper rash*
Good evening, moms 👋🏽
The skin on our babies’ bottoms is very thin and sensitive, especially during the first weeks. Wet diapers, acidic poopoo, or certain products can quickly irritate the skin. Here’s how to prevent redness and keep your baby’s bottom soft and smooth 🍑✨
🧼 *1. Change diapers regularly*
✅ Change the diaper as soon as it’s wet or soiled, especially after poopoo.
👉🏽 Don’t let your baby stay too long in a wet diaper!
💦 *2. Gently clean the area*
✅ Use lukewarm water and a soft washcloth or reusable wipes.
🚫 Avoid scented or alcohol-based disposable wipes, especially for newborns.
🍃 *3. Dry the skin well*
✅ Pat dry gently without rubbing.
✅ Leave the bottom exposed to air for a few minutes before putting on a new diaper, this helps the skin breathe.
🧴 *4. Apply a protective cream*
✅ A barrier cream (with zinc oxide) can be used as prevention, especially if redness starts to appear.
💡 A thin layer is enough, no need to apply too much!
🌡️ *5. Watch out for irritating factors*
• Frequent and acidic poopoo (especially in breastfed babies)
• Heat and sweating
• Diarrhea or antibiotic use
• Rubbing from a too tight diaper
⚠️ *When to consult a doctor?*
🚨 If the bottom is very red, the skin is damaged, there are small bumps, or baby cries during diaper changes, it could be:
🔸 A more severe form of diaper rash
🔸 Or a yeast infection (fungal rash)
In that case, consult a healthcare professional for appropriate treatment.
💡 *In summary:*
✔️ Keep baby’s bottom clean, dry, and protected
✔️ Use gentle, fragrance-free products
✔️ Change diapers often
✔️ Let the skin breathe whenever possible
💛 A little daily care goes a long way in keeping baby comfortable!
