1. Are we pulling each other down, or climbing for the best materials? 🐒🪜
You might know the famous experiment: 5 monkeys are in a room with a ladder and bananas at the top. Every time one monkey climbs the ladder, the scientists spray the others with cold water. Eventually, the monkeys start pulling down anyone who tries to climb.
Over time, the scientists replace the monkeys one by one. The new monkeys get pulled down by the group, even though none of the new group has ever been sprayed with water. They follow the rule: "Don't climb the ladder." But they don't know why.
In fashion sourcing, we often get stuck in this mindset. "We only use 100% natural fibers" or "We stick to the same suppliers." We pull down new ideas because "that's how it's always been done."
