When the workshop is blanketed by the Milky Way

Step into MAYI’s cutting workshop, and you might mistake it for a dreamscape—sheets upon sheets of gold-beaded fabric cover the workbenches, like a cascading Milky Way. Two master craftsmen are carefully pulling, aligning and cutting, each movement three times slower than usual. It is not due to unfamiliarity, but out of reverence: these luminous fabrics tolerate not the slightest error.
💫 Beaded embroidery is the ‘tough nut to crack’ among fabrics
Ordinary fabrics can be entrusted to automatic cutting machines, but not this type of heavy beaded embroidery fabric. Beads, sequins, gold thread—every layer presents a variable. MAYI’s artisans must smooth and align each layer by hand, then work in tandem with the cutting machine, advancing cut by cut. What you witness is not mere ‘cutting’, but a delicate tango between man and machine—one false step, and the entire celestial expanse shatters.
📐 The journey from the Milky Way to cut pieces
At the end of the video, those golden fabrics are cut into neat rectangles, stacked in piles like golden pages awaiting binding. They have temporarily lost the majestic grandeur they possessed when spread out, but have gained a new identity—soon to be sewn, pieced together, quality-checked, and ultimately transformed into the ‘soul’ of a MAYI swimwear piece. This contraction is for a more magnificent blossoming.
