In Bhuj, Gujarat, India, the clamp dye techniques came into practice about 30-35 years back. During that time, clamp dyeing techniques were used in lungi (sarong: a traditional garment worn around the waist) to produce various designs. The trend to make clamp dyed lungi lasted for about 5 years before the clamp designs went out of fashion. The dyers at that time didn’t replicate the clamp dye tech
niques in other products and so it slowly went out of use. Around 2004, one of our clients proposed to work with us on a fold-resist project. We worked on some samples which were very much appreciated by the client. Thus started our journey with clamp dyeing. Since then we experimented on numerous fold patterns creating hundreds of designs. We use both chemical and natural dyes and work on wide range of materials ranging from cotton(handmade and mill made) to various kinds of silk(habutai, satin, crepe, mulberry etc) to wool (merino, pashmina) and various blends like cotton-silk, wool-silk etc.. Currently we are working with various renowned designers and boutiques from India, Italy, France, USA.
