Then the open class...
My god it was fast and hard. The level was high and good drivers were more plenty than ever before. Never have I been so exhausted with consentration after a final as I was after the last A-main trying to defend another, second place finish for full 8 minutes. The 4wd and lipo cars were frighteningly fast and this was the first time ever I took all possible power to use a Mini-z with Kyosho board can offer. A car that powerful with aggressive front grip of v1-F20 takes tons and tons of concentration to keep on the optimal racing line.
The race was lost to Thomas Robin already in the friday practice. It was a fight that couldn't be won against the 4wd on this fast track, but I'm 100% happy to still in the end to be able to climb to be the fastest 2wd car and do that in a simple Kyosho Mini-z. Probably for the last time in history.

The setup was pretty much as with the stock car apart from a few differences. Front tires were the even grippier v1-F20, the car was stretched to 100mm with a custom fiberglass motor pod "batman" plate. Non-existent ride height of 0.5mm front and 1mm rear. Travel inwards was limited so that the shocks bottom just as the chassis starts to touch ground so that weight will always stay on tires.

First let's go through the stock class...
What was wonderful this year, was that so many top class drivers also attended the stock class making it much more exiting. New this year was the frightening speed of brushless motors. Especially the Atomic 3500kv stock motor geared high had impressive top speed. Ratios as tall as 17/51 were spotted to my understanding. Jesse's JRP car was fast from the first practice, but only after the tire and setup changes for the last qualifying made everything click together. Running Marka v1-R10 and V1-F25 gave the car perfect balance. Just enough of agility, but still easy to be really precise. It was practically impossible to make a mistake with a car this easy, so even if speedwise the race was one of the toughest, there was nobody doing as little mistakes this time. Faultless Q3 for pole and leading the 1st and 2nd finals from start to finish with zero incidents. Both finals even produced a result half a second apart. The inner robot was found.. Watching the 3rd final and the speed of Thomas Robin from trackside, it was hard to believe how this man was beaten with a result nearly a lap quicker.

The setup was quite traditional for me apart form the from tires that I had ever run successfully before. 21mm rear rims with 3.5 offset. 19.5mm front rims with 1.5mm offset. 1mm front ground clearance, 2mm in the rear. Standard width front suspension with some 3-4deg caster, 1deg camber and 0.3mm front droop. In the rear, 3mm rear droop, 15k grease in shocks, side shocks tightened a little bit more against each other as normally to get more snappy steering. Quite much extra weight and nearly 50/50 weight division.

I'm happy to talk about the setup, settings, preparation and driving style, if there are any questions.

Arrived home and unpacked after the 2018 1:28 World Championships in Catz sports Arena, Hamburg.
A big big thank you for the organizers and all ~100 fellow 1:28 racers at the event making the small scale rc wonderful and professional. The level of racing was much higher than the year before with nearly all top class drivers making it to the event this year. Too sad last years open class winner Tuomas Nieminen couldn't attend to defend his title.
In final standings, Jesse Tuominen reached exactly to the same 1st in 2wd stock class and 3rd in open class as the year before.

Some may have already noticed, but changes have been driven to existing products little by little. In all aluminum parts we have went over to 7075-T6 aluminum. Because it's harder, less material has been used now giving lighter and nicer looking parts.

OK, it is done. JRP has just sent its first free sponsor car away to a young promising French driver who made a good test drive in the 2017 1/28th scale worlds at Izegem, Belgium.
Congratulations to the new factory driver Nathan Berthaut!

Testing new concepts every now and then. What do you think? Will it be lightning fast, difficult, or a bad idea?
