I’ve always felt an affinity with the punk spirit. I like that word. Every collection is that. Punk is against flattery, and that’s what I like about it.

“We prefer to let the clothes speak.” Martin Margiela
A lot of Margiela’s “voice” actually comes through his actions rather than words—like anonymous runway presentations, blank labels, white coats for staff, and the numbered system used for collections. That’s why his influence is often described as philosophical rather than rhetorical.

Berlin-based emerging designer Melina Scappatura founded her brand, Radical Decisions, in 2023. At the core of her creative practice lies a strong commitment to sustainability and upcycling, focusing on reducing waste and fostering a more conscious future in fashion. Each piece is carefully crafted in her studio using reclaimed materials. Rooted in Berlin’s distinctive attitude, her work embraces inclusivity and celebrates individuality, reflecting a climate where small, thoughtful steps can lead to meaningful industry change. Operating at the intersection of costume and fashion design, her creations carry an artistic sensibility, with a process akin to ready-made sculpture—remixing old and new, traditional and contemporary elements.

South Korean fashion design student Juyeon Kim, currently studying at the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) in Paris, developed the visually striking project “Overdress(ed)”, in which she translates architectural and sculptural forms into garment construction. The project reinterprets playground structures as a sculptural dress, treating the body as a foundational base. We enjoy discovering new talent among emerging designers and are excited to see more from Juyeon Kim.

Maison Margiela, under the creative direction of Glenn Martens, showcased its Fall/Winter 2026–2027 collection in Shanghai on April 1, 2026.

Whether he is continuing the legacy of Martin in a strong way is still up for debate. What do you think?
