It felt like my own graduation somehow. 👩🏻‍🎓

It has been almost 5 years since I had my first official lecture on Sustainable Fashion at the Fashion & Innovation Program of Ming Chuan University International College. I returned to Taiwan from Berlin in 2018 for my family, and ended up staying here much longer than I expected.

This is the first fashion program in Taiwan with full English teaching system and trilingual classes. And to my knowledge, I was the first lecturer in Taiwan specialized on teaching “Sustainable Fashion” fully in English with a global scope combining my experiences on different continents.

Through the program, I have taught talented students and royals from more than 10 countries in Asia, Africa, America, and Europe. (Yes, it might be hard to imagine that even those from countries well-known for fashion like French, Japanese, and Korean were also in my class.) The student body does not only include Fashion, but also Business and Journalism. I’ve taught on the subjects of Sustainability in Fashion, Fashion Event Planning, Sustainable Fashion Marketing, and related topics such as influencer culture and fashion media. Upon each graduating class, the department also kindly invited me to join the Judge panel for the portfolio presentation.

I’ve shared everything I know from the industry with the students and witnessed many of them took on the path of sustainable fashion and clean beauty. While I was on business trip in the Middle East, I still managed to mentor MCU students online from my hotel room in Dammam and Manama.

I feel deeply honored and humbled to be given this opportunity by Dr. Wendy Chou & Dr. Rolando Chang, the visionary department directors and the MCU International College. I have learned so much and developed a clear structure for my content growing with the program.

I am relocating again soon to Paris in a couple of months to begin the next big step in my career, and give more workshops in the MENA region. I sincerely hope some day I will come back to share my story with the students in Taiwan again and I wish a bright future for the MCUFIM program. 🤍

Her expertise includes transdisciplinary design, trend forecasting, multicultural marketing strategy, and multilingual communication. She founded The Oriental Hybrid, and co-founded Morocco Fashion Future and Sustainable Fashion Alliance MENA. With a degree in Environmental Design, an upcoming degree in Corporate Strategy, and training in people-to-people diplomacy, she has worked in numerous roles in the sustainable fashion scene since 2016 - currently focusing on bridging the Chinese and Arabic speaking regions.

在這趟中東北非旅程中，我選擇把創造體驗放在第一位。
At the moment, I’m prioritizing creating experiences more than content.

I’ve been in the UAE for 4 weeks, but this is my 1st proper post on Facebook about the UAE.

My business-leisure trip this time started on August 11th, and It has been almost 3 months until now. I get new pictures, new business ideas, new friendships, and new knowledge almost everyday. Meanwhile, my phone memory is full, my Google Drive is full, and my thoughts are also full.

As someone who creates content, works in fashion / marketing / media, I should be posting everyday to maximize content reach. Yet I chose to stay quiet, keep images in my phone and just edit them when I feel well-rested enough.

As someone who travels to network, I should be meeting new people and make business appointments everyday to enlarge my circle. Yet I chose to reserve my time and energy for people who I find authentic and build real friendships.

It’s my first time to have business-leisure trip for such a long time, 4 and a half months accross 6 countries. All self-funded and self-arranged. I’m constantly experiencing the new hellos and goodbyes, the new environment, the new food, and the new language. Sometimes, I feel I cannot take any more in mentally and physically, so I stay in my accommodation spot for a day to digest or to recover.

I’m sharing these thoughts with my friends in case you feel I’m not as responsive to your messages or posts as I used to be when I was based somewhere. I do care about you even if I’m not responding fast.

I’m sharing this journey with my professional partners in case you feel I’m not delivering content, services, business proposals as efficient as I was before my trip. I’m taking my time to grow, and I will make sure that my learnings will help my partners to grow together as well.
