What does The Year of the Snake mean for businesses and people?

Symbolism of the Snake

In contrast to its often negative portrayal in Western cultures, the snake is highly revered in many Eastern traditions. The Chinese zodiac attributes wisdom, resilience, and an inherent ability to overcome obstacles to the snake. In 2025, the Wood Snake is set to inspire profound personal and societal growth. Professor Jonathan H. X. Lee, an expert in Asian and Asian American studies at San Francisco State University, highlights that the snake’s symbolism is linked to shedding toxicity, both in personality and character. “It’s shedding the ego, letting go of the past, letting go of anger, letting go of love lost,” Lee explains.

This focus on transformation and growth is central to the snake’s nature. The snake, a symbol of intelligence and perseverance, encourages individuals to release bad habits and unrealistic expectations, making room for personal and collective evolution.

With all the negative feedback on the Jaguar re-brand I thought I would give my thoughts on it:

➡ First of all the in-house design team created this new branding.
➡ It wasn’t always distinctive enough in the last decade”, said Adrian Mardell, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover
➡ The new branding aims to reposition the make, whose future vehicles will be 100% electric and around twice as expensive as current models.
➡ "We think there will be a lot of new customers,” said Jaguar MD Rawdon Glover – predicting that a massive 80% to 90% of the upcoming models’ audience will be first-time Jaguar buyers.
➡ He describes these customers as independently minded, younger, wealthier, urban, and not wanting something run-of-the-mill.
➡ The company describes the relaunched brand characteristics as “exuberant Modernism.”

These are big statements for the brand. One thing I did note was there was very little mention of heritage, research and understanding of existing clientbase.

Also there is mention of this brand being more urban so what does that look like for existing and new customers who are not urban and traditionally Jaguar Land Rover buyers? As for run-of-the-mill as an ex JLR driver I certainly not this and this is nothing like I am, but I am only one person and this is my take on that statement.

Let's see how this plays out.
