A quiet week for swimming🌧️. It has been an absolutely lovely summer ☀️but I’m grateful for a bit of rain. 🌻

Lovely to see some of the watchtower_waders today and practice my new skills from the sauna. Thank you.

Check out the new well-being treatments happening right now at mor_a_sawna, so exciting. 🤩

🥳What a busy couple of weeks for the swimmers🥳 so many August birthdays 🦁 Do you think we celebrated by the sea?

🌊We certainly did there were celebrations in Skomer, Whitmore Bay ( of course ) Jackson’s Bay and Jackson’s sauna mor_a_sawna and with the point swimmers a birthday was celebrated in the middle of the ocean somewhere. 🤣

There were puffins 😍 nosecco ( celebrated before work ) ridiculous onesies ( most had ) cake and home made s**t ( far from s**t actually ) Gin and a partial solar eclipse 🌒

Another year gone by creating memories 💕

I do have one more birthday in August ( mother ) but land based activities preferred.

Great to be back swimming in the silty Barry sea. ☺️

A 2.5k swim from Jackson’s to the Old Harbour with a nice tidal assist last night. Wind causing a very enjoyable lumpy section at Nells 😁

The slog into the Bay was fine with just an upturned paddle board and a curious baby seagull for distraction.

Coastwatch centre was alerted to our swim and numbers in our group before hand and our spotter on land captured our videos.

Always swim within your own capabilities, be aware of tides and weather conditions and wear a bright tow float for visibility. 🤩

What is a day off if you live on Barry Island…

Late morning I joined the Whitmore Bay RNLI lifeguards in my volunteer support role to assist situations with missing or found children . Most of my queries were related to the location of the toilets, a minor first aid with stickers given out and lots and lots of wrist bands warmly received by families local and from a far.

I then made it over to the Watchtower at high tide where the waders were having their annual swim to the wall and back to help. Big well done to them all. 🥳

Lovely to see the waders and I think I had cake and a sarnie!!

I then pampered a few waders ( and myself ) with beautiful products being used at our local sauna mor_a_sawna.

A quick adventure to a lock up for resources for another volunteer and then home…a late stroll with the pooch and chippies from the amazing hungrysharkbarry and of course a 🍺 very much deserved.

Did I do park run? Oops afraid not ☺️
I should be resting after last weeks adventures don’t you think !!

Big shout out to my team mate Gwawr and to all my family and friends who supported at the event itself and from home. 💕Surprise visits too by secret squirrel Debbie, Sarah, Claire and Tony and Julia and family. Love and great company 🥂continuing late after the event with Bridge and Dave too. 🥰

They were at the beaches capturing these wonderful memories

Mum, sis I know you would’ve been there if you could. Big love as I know you were worried xx

Well we only bloody done it! 💪💪

The Wales Swim Run, a 14k run and just short of 5k total swim. The terrain and the swims getting tougher.

What started with smiles at the wonderful surprise of friends and family support at every beach 😍 did end with some real tears🪼my head telling me I could not do it, to then feeling absolute joy and relief at completing it all, in the cut off times (just) AND we also podiumed. 🥇

Absolute stunner of a course and the views were spectacular. Weather conditions were perfect but a bit too perfect for those jellyfish.

My wetsuit rubbing my arms and hurting my shoulders by swim two.

The terrain got tougher, the jellies were getting bigger. I wish I didn’t struggle with them. My team mate got stung three times, myself once but they kept bumping into me. 🙈😳One hit me right in the head, then straight after in my arm and then I swam right over one and I could feel it all down my torso. My worst case scenario.

I was 500m from finishing the last swim knowing the 2k run back would be ok but I started to cry. I knew I couldn’t give up here. Most Jelly encounters stopped me swimming causing my team mate to get cold. She told me get in the boat or keep going. I don’t know how I did that swim. I could not give up now! I won’t be doing it again I can tell you.

Super proud of my team mate who I know is grateful I accepted her offer, hated that last swim but she will do this again. 😳🤩

Running the finish line is an unbelievable feeling. What was even more amazing was that despite being some of the last athletes in the other female and male teams did not finish so we podiumed getting first place female team. 🥳I’ll take that for the jellies. 💪what a surprise!

Still can’t believe it and I’m buzzing! Glad I did it ?YES would I repeat? What do you think? 🪼

This time next week it will be all over. The Wales Swim Run and hopefully finishing the route 😳🙏and in the allotted time in Pembrokeshire. 🏅

Practice today at the 500th barryisland_parkrun and looking like complete 🤬🤣

Have I trained enough? Will it be celebrations or commiserations ??? Depends totally on the jellyfish 🪼 🤦‍♀️🤣

Wow wow wow a bucket list swim ticked off this weekend 🥳 a swim not planned this year for me until I ( 😵‍💫 ) got a last minute charity ticket. 🍀

It was the iconic Bantham swoosh swim in the Avon (Aune) estuary in Devon. A shallow and sandy bottomed swim approximately 6k with a tidal swoosh. Oh my did we feel it 😀

The adventure started as soon as we got on the road ☺️ and despite very little sleep in a cold awning I woke up excited to take part.

We of course had a sea dip on arrival to Bantham, we ate pizza and then watched the sun going down on the beautiful beach. I woke early and was quick to dip, I could’ve stayed there forever. 😍

The event was so well organised. Some of our group did the Swoosh and others did the Boomerang the next day. Some purchased a volunteer ticket too so it was nice to see friends helping and being around to snap our photos once we finished. 💕

During the swim we tried to regroup and stay together. The water safety team doubted this but we managed and we got to link hands and experience the swoosh in the last 1k together. It felt like a mix between a water ride in Florida and a natural rapid experience down river. We swooshed out at the sandy beach laughing and wanting to swoosh again with a big crowd greeting us ♥️

There was no stress, no fear and no doubts about this swim it was always going to be an adventure, taking in the scenery and being grateful for where I was in that moment. That said I am super proud of the group really pushing themselves with the distance. 💪

Once again a great memory. A beautiful place, a great swim and super company. 💕

The Swoosh raises money for Level Water – a brilliant charity providing 1-to-1 swimming lessons for children with disabilities. A charity my swim group and myself have previously supported. Every £15 raised gives a child the chance to learn to swim.

As I was late entry (literally a week before) I only committed to raise a small amount. Thank you to those that have donated but it’s still live so if you would like to donate then please DM me for the link.

I will most definitely be returning to this wonderful place and will always support this fantastic charity when the opportunity arises.
