Busy at work over the bank holiday but straight back in the sea as soon as I could. After all it is too hot to run. ☺️

Despite the crowds we headed to Jackson’s bay at high tide yesterday and after extreme difficulty getting into rubber with sweat saturated skin it was with absolute pleasure and without any screams I entered the sea.

It was a beautiful swim once we passed all the bathers and sea traffic and we swam all the way over to the old harbour. It was 2.7km and not difficult for me at all in those calm, warm conditions. We regrouped on Nells and Friars point and let the outgoing tide pull us along like we were in a lazy river. We took in the stunning views of the cliffs and watched in awe at the hundreds of people on the sand.

This mornings swim was 1.7km but this was a tough swim for me. Swimming out to Nells the waves crashing into our faces, I drank a bit too. Felt that lovely swoosh on the point before a tough old wavy swim back into Whitty. Still bloody loved it.

This is exactly why I love sea swimming. The variety, the challenge and the accomplishment. I would never swim these points alone and only ever swim these points with experienced and knowledgeable swimmers and our spotter/photographer is always a bonus. 🤩

So a fairly ‘ok’ time to complete park run today after quite a few months missed. It has though given me a goal, something to beat each time until my event. My team mate for the swim run event left me for dust 🏃‍♀️so I really do need to keep up the run training so she’s not dragging me along.

No problem sea swimming at all this week, another 2k ( tide assisted ) point swim ✅ in what seemed like a scene from the ‘perfect storm’ early on Wednesday. 💪Some early morning dips and swims and a 1k swim to the buoy and back in Jackson’s today after the run.

How do I feel now? Exhausted. But also very happy.

Stuck at home today, car is broken 🚗but when you live by the sea…

And it was high tide And for a brief moment the sun was out. Left the pooch so I could have a little swim rather than play. Much enjoyed.

Then took the pooch out when all I could see was sea. High tide 11.58m 🥰

A last minute swim idea resulted in the first point swim of 2026. Finally!! 🥳

Sea temperature is still not great but it is getting better. Our knowledgable swimmers decided we would go on a low tide as far less water and of course swimming the point ( the only way possible ) with the tide.

A bit of wind meant for a surf style swim on the point so I let the body glide and caught a few wave rides. This was fun.

Getting into Jackson’s however was hard work. Getting into any of our local bays is always a slog but this was hard and the water turned very dark as soon as we turned in. The lovely Jackson’s mud. We tried to avoid it by heading diagonally in to the rocks but there was no escaping the sludge on our exit. Once we looked back there was in fact hardly any water but we all knew we had a decent swim. 💪

A confident swim with experienced swimmers and thanks again to our land spotter and photographer Jules (from the coast watch centre. ) Thanks also for my post swim drink ladies. That was a treat! 😉

If you are looking to gain more confidence in the sea I recommend allornothingevents for coached sea swim sessions which I know are running in June on Whitmore Bay. There may well be guided point swims with safety cover from boards and boats too.

swimwild.wales is another local company which we use for point swims, coaching and further adventures.

My neoprene wash pile is crazy. I have managed swim training this week both early mornings and evenings. 😍

Not much to say about the running mind 🙈

I got put through my paces last night with the allornothingevents crew. A coached swim session for all abilities. Quite a few fast swimmers ( of which I am not ) but my advantage was knowing the currents in Whitmore bay and sighting the buoys 🤩. Good fun.

Tired today mind so a nice sauna on shift has reset the mind and eased my achy muscles.

Good luck all you Barry island 10k runners this weekend 💪 ( I’ve done it thanks😁 )

And so my events are pretty much organised for this swim season ahead marking 50 years young!

This one was a surprise. I did not know swim runs were a thing (apart from aquathon’s ) and I love an adventure. That adventure being trail running and sea swimming. So I do what I ( or should I say ‘we’ can do ) without killing myself in a full blown race.

My Nyad group are constantly inspiring me with their bravery, recently jumping out of planes and signing up for triathlons and distance lake swims. So what was I going to do?

This event ticks all the boxes and so much so that I will be motivated to train. 💪

So thank you Gwawr for the message the other evening. We have now entered the event as a pair and will be attached throughout the course. 😁💪

This is MEGA for us with cut offs, unknown sea and weather conditions and likely jelly fish encounters too. A Nyad event for sure 🪼😳

However I get to trail run and swim along the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast starting at Lydstep and finishing at Wiseman’s Bridge. 🍺

A few small sea swims this week, Jim’s gym on the beach 💪a 5k run and a sauna has been a nice start. Park run must resume!!

Event day is 1st August so in the warmer months if you see us swimming in trainers and running in wetsuits you will know why.

I honestly thought I was on holiday this morning after a good sea swim. Thank you ladies for joining me. Much talk of an epic adventure in the summer and getting some top tips and suggestions for training. I am mulling over it all this weekend…😳🙈

Then coffee with the girls ( the land based type that is ) and it was so bloody good to see you!!

Barry island was beautiful. Warm and sunny and good vibes.
