Did you know there is now only one traditional last maker left in England?

And they're based in Northampton, the historic home of British shoemaking. 👞

As part of the Earls Golf journey, we've recently commissioned our own bespoke last. It's a small detail that most people will never see, but it's arguably one of the most important parts of creating a truly great shoe.

For centuries, Northampton has been at the heart of British footwear craftsmanship. Generations of skilled makers built a global reputation for quality, precision and durability. Yet today, many of those traditional skills are slowly disappearing.

That's one of the reasons this project means so much to us.

It's not just about creating a golf shoe. It's about preserving a little piece of British manufacturing heritage and ensuring traditional craftsmanship still has a place in a modern world.

Every Earls Golf shoe will begin with a handcrafted wooden last, made right here in England, carrying forward skills that have been passed down through generations.

In an age of mass production and disposable products, there's something quite special about that.

Sometimes progress isn't about doing something new, it's about remembering what worked brilliantly in the first place.

Starting a new business is an exciting journey, but there’s a lot more to building a successful brand than creating a great name and logo.

As I embark on my latest venture, Earls Golf, I've been reminded just how important it is to get the foundations right from the outset. Building a strong brand takes time, effort and investment, so protecting it should be part of the plan from day one.

That’s why I was delighted to feature in this article, sharing some of the thinking behind Earls Golf and highlighting the importance of trade mark protection for growing businesses. It's a topic that's often overlooked until a problem arises, but taking the right steps early can save a lot of time, cost and stress further down the line.

A little Earls Golf update... 👞⛳

This might not look particularly exciting to most people, but for us, it represents a huge milestone.

What you're looking at is "the last", the form that every Earls Golf shoe will be built around.

More importantly, it's our last.

Handcrafted in Northampton by the only remaining traditional last maker in England, this is the intellectual property that belongs to Earls Golf and forms the foundation of every pair of shoes we'll produce.

Over the last few months, there have been countless conversations around design, manufacturing, materials and construction. But before any shoe can be made properly, it starts here.

It's one of those behind-the-scenes details that most people will never see, yet it's arguably one of the most important parts of the entire process.

Seeing this come to life makes everything feel a little more real.

There's still plenty of work to do, but progress is being made and we're getting one step closer to bringing traditional craftsmanship back to the golf course.
