Bulb lasagnes bursting into life outside my office window.
This is Iris reticulata ‘Harmony’. One of my favourite early season bulbs. The colour is just gorgeous.

Was struck by the use of uplighters in this pub garden. They’re especially effective in the winter when there’s not so much going on in the garden and work well in these alcoves and amongst the grasses. Apologies for the poor photos but it was pouring with rain (again!).

Welcome home!
This lovely brickwork by using reclaimed materials has transformed the entrance to this garden. Always an exciting moment to see a garden come off the drawing board and into reality. Just waiting for the green stuff to complete the picture.

I knew it was a cliche but I took this photo earlier this year on a holiday hike along Hadrian’s Wall. I’m glad I did now and am genuinely sad this iconic tree has been cut down. What a pointless waste of irreplaceable natural beauty.

Lovely afternoon exploring Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens in Dorset last week. Fabulous place for inspirational foliage and shady gardening. Special delight watching a hummingbird hawk moth feed on ceratostigma. I’ve never seen one before and it was totally captivating (so much so I didn’t take a picture!).

Lovely to be back to visit a garden completed earlier this year. Scroll through to see what it looked like before its makeover. We kept the shed and paving to avoid unnecessary environmental cost using new materials. The pergolas and small tree bring welcome height and screening. The lawn is a grass white clover mix decreasing mowing and broadening the diversity in the space. A bench seat integrated into the raised bed is apparently getting lots of use for after work cups of tea and my clients now enjoying pottering in the garden in a way they never have before. Job done!
With thanks to for an excellent build. New timber from

Right on trend! I seem to have accidentally grown a clover lawn and I rather like it 😊
Of course the bees love it, it’s beautifully green and it’s soft and springy underfoot. What’s not to like.

Fabulous and thought provoking day with and a lovely group of garden designers (and a few sheep!) all keen to tap into Sid’s amazing knowledge and experience, to rethink how we design gardens and the narratives we share with our clients, to promote well-being and biodiversity with ecologically balanced, sustainable and productive gardens. A lot to take in but fortunately there was a great cafe and even a few games!
