ng, Campbell's are fortunate to have the skills of Lara Bradbeer. In our workroom behind the shop we make all our bespoke garments by hand. Every order we take is individually measured to the client, making us one of the very few tailors in Scotland offering this bespoke process and service. Campbell's specialise in sporting suits, and have a rich history in tailoring the tweeds for many sporting estates, and a long tradition of making formal Highlandwear. These include plus four's, jackets, waistcoats, skirts, trousers and kilts. In addition of the large range of tweeds and countrywear range, Campbell's of Beauly specialise in luxury British made knitwear. Sourcing only the finest qualities from the best knitting mills in Hawick, Campbell's pride ourselves in offering a premium knitwear product of the highest detail and quality. Sporting tweeds form an important part of the large selection of fabric kept in stock. Some of the designs are woven specially, and can only be obtained from Campbell's of Beauly, but the ranges in stock include tweeds of various weights from a number British of mills, all woven in the UK. Our retail shops name "The Highland Tweed House" is a testament to our experience and expertise in this specialist niche area, and the company is often referred to as the "guardians of tweed".

His Majesty's arrival at the Mey Highland Games has become one of the defining moments of the Highland summer. Held each August at the John O'Groats Showground in Caithness, the Games celebrate the traditions, culture and community spirit that have shaped the north of Scotland for centuries.

King Charles III has long held a deep affection for the Highlands, spending much of his time at the nearby Castle of Mey. His commitment to preserving Scotland's rural traditions is reflected not only in his support of local communities and craftsmanship, but also in his enduring appreciation of Highland dress. Frequently seen wearing traditional tweed jackets, Highland hose and tartan kilts, he continues to champion Scottish tailoring and textile heritage with characteristic authenticity.

The Mey Highland Games bring these traditions vividly to life. Pipe bands fill the air with the unmistakable sound of the Great Highland Bagpipe, Highland dancers perform age-old routines, and competitors gather for the famous heavy events. The Caber Toss remains the spectacle most closely associated with the Games, where athletes attempt to turn a towering larch pole end over end with perfect balance and control. Alongside it, the Scottish Hammer Throw, Putting the Stone and Tug o' War showcase the remarkable strength, skill and determination that have been part of Highland life for generations.

More than a day of competition, the Mey Highland Games are a celebration of Scotland's living heritage. It's a place where tartan, tweed, music and tradition come together against the backdrop of one of the country's most dramatic landscapes. Some visitors leave a lasting impression.

Back in 2024, Rhum, then just a curious young Labrador puppy, joined Paul Downs on a visit to our Beauly workshop while Paul was being fitted for his bespoke tweeds. While Paul was choosing cloth and discussing the finer details of his shooting suit, it was Rhum who stole the attention of everyone in the fitting room.

Fast forward two years and Rhum has gone from an enthusiastic youngster to one of Scotland's finest working gundogs. After an outstanding season of trials, he was selected to represent Scotland at the prestigious Skinners World Cup, where Team Scotland triumphed against 13 other nations. To crown an incredible achievement, Rhum, the youngest dog in the competition, was awarded Top Dog with the highest individual score.

We were delighted to receive this update from Paul and to see both Rhum and Paul's Campbell's tweeds enjoying success in the field. Congratulations to them both on a truly remarkable achievement. We look forward to welcoming them back to Beauly soon.

Highland dress begins with two things: the tartan and the tailoring.

Pictured here is a bespoke hand sewn MacLaren Muted kilt, paired with a made to measure kilt jacket and waistcoat in Lovat Green. The MacLaren clan traces its origins to Balquhidder in Perthshire, where its history is deeply woven into the Highland landscape. The Muted tartan reflects that heritage through softer, weathered tones inspired by the natural colours of the glens and hills, offering a quieter interpretation of one of Scotland's most recognisable clan tartans.

Complementing the kilt is a made to measure jacket and waistcoat in Lovat Green, a cloth named after the Lovats of Beauly. Inspired by the muted greens of woodland, moorland and heather, Lovat Green has become one of the defining colours of Highland sporting dress. Its understated character allows the tartan to remain the focal point, creating a balanced and elegant Highland outfit that has stood the test of time.

Every bespoke kilt is individually hand sewn by our experienced kiltmakers, while each made to measure jacket and waistcoat is tailored to the wearer's measurements, ensuring exceptional fit and proportion. Together, they represent the craftsmanship, heritage and attention to detail that continue to define traditional Highland tailoring.
