Since my (Shelagh Nying) first travels to Senegal and the Gambia from 1987- 88 ( inspired by artists we had promoted in Leeds - Dembo & Kausu, Toumani Diabate, Super Diamono de Dakar, Salif Keita ) I have had a love for their music and culture. Musical Instruments such as the Balafon, Kora, Djembe & Percussion. Cultural goods such as Fabric, textiles, clothes, jewellery, masks & home ware. I have

collections of all the above both for personal use for home & family, plus professional use in African & World music performances and African drumming & percussion workshops. I was a promoter ( Soundjata Promotions) & community workshop facilitator, keyworker & rhythm drummer / percussionist (Africa4All) both in Leeds & then Huddersfield (where we moved to in 2002) until recent years. I have sold goods just on a small scale every now and again since 1995 at local festivals, carnivals and community events, and online.

To celebrate International Children's Day, Eastern European Culture Zone are having a wellbeing craft session combined with drumming on Sat 3rd June 12 -3pm. Myself and Mass Nying will bring Djembes, bass drums, small Mandinka drums, plus a variety of percussion instruments to have an informal "hands on" session. We'll play West African rhythms and improvisations! It is free to join in with all activities 😀

Pretty rare collectors item so could be worth more but has been valued at £1500
It has been in my possession since 1988 and belonged to Terry Smith (R.I.P) who bought it from Alan Wilkinson who bought it from Carl
