The last eclipse! 🌅🌓
In August 1999 I was working for various national newspapers📰as a sub-editor and freelance beauty💄journalist. A few days before the eclipse I was working at The Sun newspaper when a call came in asking for a stylist/journalist to help an advertising agency with a new TV 📺 advert. It involved flying to the Caribbean 🌴that weekend for a few days. I was single with no responsibilities so I volunteered. I had a meeting on the day of the eclipse in an office opposite the Covent Garden Palazzo to discuss the job. I was then hired by advertising agency McCann Erickson (as it was then called) to style and document a TV advertisement for Bacardi Rum 🍹in the Dominican Republic! I couldn’t believe it. I was then flown ✈️first class to the Dominican Republic and put up in a five star hotel. The airline lost my 🧳 luggage so I was given $500 by the advert producer out of petty cash when I arrived to buy a new wardrobe👗! 24 hours later my suitcase turned up. I was there for ten very long and very hot days. The advert storyline was about a boxing 🥊 match between a black and a white boxer. We cast local young men for the roles and we painted the floor of a boxing ring with the Bacardi logo. The director was the infamous (at the time) Tony Kaye - Google him. Anyway the advert was then reshot and I was flown out again for a second time. Crazy times. There was a lot of money flying around in the media in the nineties and my day rate was huge for the TV commercial. So many fun memories. I will dig out some photos. I also had a romance when I was there with one of the crew and we dated for two years - so I flew back to the DR a few times. But that story is for another day…oh and seeing the eclipse was incredible! Enjoy it tonight!🌓🌅

🛍️👗Vintage shopping last weekend: I visited multiple places but the ones I purchased from are Snoopers Paradise; Oxfam Western Road; Cancer Research Western Road; American Vintage; Beyond Retro.

Snoopers Paradise is heaven for a vintage shopper. It’s on multiple floors and has dozens of different traders selling anything and everything. I found true vintage dresses and incredible jewellery.

American Vintage on Western Road, Brighton. This is on one floor and most of the pieces weren’t for me BUT I found one rail at the back full of original 60s and 70s dresses. Plus, you can barter in here. They had mostly menswear though - jeans, hoodies, tees and sports tops.

Oxfam on Western Road is a new location for them and filled with really good pieces. The prices are very high though and they don’t put sizes on anything. They catalogue by type and then colour - so there was a section of black and white tops for example. I bought a vintage dress and a modern designer blouse from here.
