Hi all, it has been a long time since my last post, but I thought I would catch up with whats happening as after much deliberation, I have decided to wind up the business after 19 years. As many of you mums out there will know, having a little one leaves little time and to dedicate the time to create patterns, bespoke clothing, uniform and costumes has been challenging. So I have decided to take a prolonged break from running my dressmaking business. I am still teaching at Direct Sewing Machines in Bristol a few days a week and since writing my book and over the years of sewing I discovered that I love research (yes I know!) and am considering moving into that field and follow up on more uniform logistics from the book. That is not to say my sewing will stop, I have a few projects that I have wanted to do for years (including a new Battle dress for myself) and of course loads of ideas for the little one. But I want to say thank you to each and every one of you for your support, loyalty and trust in me to make your fabulous outfits. From wedding, christening, costumes, corsets, cosplay, prom, uniforms to ties and cravats, I have loved making them all. I have been fortunate to meet so many lovely people many of whom are now friends. So with a tear in my eye this is a fond farewell, who knows I may well pop up in the future, but for now, thank you for the memories. Cx

I have one of these, and it really is a workhorse. Finding a machine that sew the finest silk chiffons through to 4 layers of thick khaki serge can be tough. Even takes 5000m cones of thread. Love this machine!

Sorting out photographs to go on new website and saw these maids costumes (beautifully modelled by Michelle Harrop and Jane Pearce) from a few years ago when I costumed Bristol Musical Theatre show Me and My Girl. One of the things I love about doing costumes is that it is not always about making from new, but utilising existing items mixed with new. The show was set in the late 30's, the main dresses were bought and then I adjusted them. To give the 30's look, I designed the aprons, headpieces and added cuffs to the sleeve and collars.
